DESCRIPTION The Annual Children's Spooktacular Halloween Party
was held on Friday, October 27, 1989, from 1:30-5:30p.m. The activity was
divided into two separate time frames: 1:30-3:00p.m. for the
Preschool/Kindergarten aged children, and 3:30-5:30p.m. for school aged
children. Pre -registration was required and participants paid a $2.00
registration fee.
The format of the Spooktacular was similar to that used in the past.
Carnival type games were conducted with novelty toy items as prizes.
Trick -or -treat bags and Halloween coloring books were handed out to the
children. Approximately 85-90 preschool children and 50 school aged
children attended this event.
The carnival type Spooktacular has been conducted for the last five years.
Staff would like to change the event from a children's program to a family
Halloween special event as follows:
1. Offer an evening event from 7-8:30p.m.
2. Feature a costume contest with a number of categories (Best
Family, Spookiest, Silliest, etc.)
3. Conduct a pumpkin carving and pie baking contest where
participants would bring pies and precarved pumpkins from home for
judging.
4. Provide a puppet show for entertainment.
5, Conduct some crazy contests on the stage with audience
participation.
6. Conduct the customary game and craft booths.
Staff would like to include Teen participation in this event. It has been
suggested to have a haunted house utilizing the downstairs area of the
Center. The Teens would be responsible for planning and creating the
haunted house, and the activity would be supervised by the Teen Recreation
Coordinator.
Staff requests the Commission's input and comments on the proposed plans for
next years event.
