Application Questions
If yes, what year?
Why are you interested in serving on the Senior Center Advisory Committee?
I have lived in Dublin for almost 40 years, and retired from a teaching career about 20 years ago. I have seen the city of Dublin grow and
prosper. I want seniors to benefit from a thriving Senior Center.
A Senior Center can be an avenue for learning new things, making friends and socializing, gaining new interests, learning to stay healthy
through exercising. And thereby enjoying many additional years of living.
3
For 20 years, I volunteered and helped a fellow teacher in her kindergarten classroom everyweek at Frederiksen Elementary School. I helped
kids with their assignments, read stories and helped with holiday crafts and parties. The teacher I helped retired last year from Dublin
Unified School District.
I feel that I am qualified to serve for the Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee. Throughout my teaching career, I was able to deal with
many different kinds of people and families in the community, different kinds of circumstances, making sound decisions to benefit everyone I
served. I am able to communicate effectively with people both in writing and in -person. For these reasons I feel I can be an asset to the
Senior Advisory Committee.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
Organizations/clubs I am a member of:
1- Dublin Senior Center: Melody Minstrels Ukelele Group (11 years); Various classes: currently Tai Chi
2- Various classes through City Serve of the Tri Valley: currently Seated Exercises and Zumba
3- Japanese American Community Center of Northern Calif. (SF)
4- GM Fremont Alumni Club (through my husband)
5- Weller School Book Club (with active and retired teaching staff)
What is your impression of the programs and services offered for seniors through the Dublin Senior Center?
Classes have been well -run, beneficial, cost -friendly, and taught by good instructors.
Special programs such as Health Fairs, Craft Shows have been well -planned and presented.
Regular daily programs, such as lunch and coffee affenngs have been well -attended and timed.
Special Day Bus Trips (contracted by outside companies) are well -organized and safety -conscious.
Atmosphere and workers are friendly and welcoming. The directors are commendable in that they seem to welcome suggestions and are
willing to make improvements.
Have you or a family member participated in the programs, services, or events offered at the Dublin Senior Center?
I have participated in a variety of programs. Some of the classes have been Exercise classes such as Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi, Dance and
Movement.
I have attended various seminars such as Health and Wellness, Driving and Traffic.
Have belonged to the Music Participation Group (Melody Minstrels) for approximately 11 years, playing ukelele.
In addition, I have volunteered in the prep and serving in the lunch program in the past, when the food was prepared an -site.
Are there additional programs and services that should be offered through the Dublin Senior Center? Please describe.
Don't know if these exist currently or not:
There used to be a Book Club, craft classes such as crocheting and knitting, origami, tax help during tax season, housing topics such as
downsizing and transitioning to other kinds of housing (Assisted Living), various health topics such as Kaiser nurse's monthly seminars,
healthy eating topics.
What do you feel are some of the most pressing issues facing senior adults in the City of Dublin?
1- Affordable Housing - Finding Senior Housing and transitioning to such.
2- Affordable Health Care - Help when systems are inadequate.
3- Convenient public transportation (such as busing or reliable, safe taxi services for seniors) once they can't drive any more.
4- Help with upkeep and chores in homes, such as repairs, competent fix -it options) handyman services. (Maybe referrals or other low-cost
services for seniors.)

Application Questions
If yes, what year?
Why are you interested in serving on the Senior Center Advisory Committee?
Recently, my mother was visiting from out of town. I work full time, so the majority of the time she was visiting, I was out and so she spent a
lot of time on her own. I usually will take BART to work, and didn't consider the Senior Center and the activities offered until I drove by it one
day after I'd taken her to dinner. The following day she had the chance to stop by and go the the Bingo session, which she enjoyed, while
giving her the opportunity to be out and about with other people's company. The brief experience provided me with curiosity and the desire
to volunteer my time to a program that can benefit our community.
5
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
Currently, I am not involved in any organizations, outside of BOMA (Building Owners & Managers Association), pnmarily associated and in
support of my line of business. Until recently, I was part of the PESO Board as a Parent Representative for the Class of 2023. As my youngest
daughter has graduated this year, I have the time to invest in this committee.
What is your impression of the programs and services offered for seniors through the Dublin Senior Center?
Based on the brief experience that we had with my mother visiting the Senior Center, I appreciate the programs offered currently, and think
that there are always opportunities to brainstorm to off otherlrevamped and/or new experiences.
Have you or a family member participated in the programs, services, or events offered at the Dublin Senior Center?
I have had the brief experience of my mother jaining one event, based on the limited amount of time she was here, however she was
interested in upcoming events, had she lived in the area.
Are there additional programs and services that should be offered through the Dublin Senior Center? Please describe.
I would need to do additional research and understand the history and development of the Senior Center and its services, so if the below
have already been addressed or vetted, please disregard my lack of knowledge. That said, I think additional marketing for the senior center
and it's activities would be beneficial. I realize that the Dublin Rec Guide provides information and details, however, are there opportunities
to highlight other events (eg: day trips). This year, both the As and the Giant's offered game tickets for a very low and attractive cost, was this
something that the center might have coordinated as a daytnp?
Is there a volunteer program associated with any of the schools, in particular the high school? Coordinating a formal program may provide
added volunteer assistance to the Center, while providing students and/or their parents visibility into the Center and its activities.
What do you feel are some of the most pressing issues facing senior adults in the City of Dublin?
I know there is a lunch program offered through the Senior Center, and activities, along with the items found in the actual facility. That said,
is there any outsourcing, and/or have there been any recent surveys to help determine what the pressing issues may be - it seems that
should be an ongoing conversation to stay present and ahead of those needs.

Application Questions
If yes, what year?
Why are you interested in serving on the Senior Center Advisory Committee?
Dear Committee -
Thank you far taking the time to read this and to consider my application for the Senior Center Advisory Committee. I have been a resident in
Dublin for a long time and have had the privilege of raising my children here (ages 5 and 15). I am a community -oriented Dublin resident, and
host National Night Out every summer for my neighbors. I have had the chance to get to know many of my Dublin neighbors, and have
found that as their parents are aging it has become extremely challenging to attend to the social and emotional needs of their aging parents.
7
I also have first-hand experience with these challenges. During my time here in Dublin, my parents moved in with me for two years (2014-
2016), and I also had my grandmother come live with me for 6 months during this time. My parents had lived in Walnut Creek before so they
had friends and a social support system. My grandmother went on walks and met other elderly grandparents who were visiting ---however,
we still felt like she needed more of a community.
I took her to the Senior Community Center with my morn, and I still remember how much fun they both had after playing Bingo! The staff
was very welcoming, and they signed up for more organized activities. It's so important to have structured routines and we saw a change in
her mood after attending the activities at the center. She looked forward to going and thoroughly enjoyed her stay with us. Recently, my
father-in-law passed away in 2019 and my mother-in-law has been coming to visit us and staying for longer periods. She hasn't had an
opportunity to take classes with the Senior Community Center, because she wants to attend them with a friend. From this experience, I
realized how isolating it can be when you move to a new place, and don't know very many people.
I am hoping to help more seniors become aware of the resources that are being offered at the center, and I hope to help with networking
events so that more seniors can use the community center and become friends with one another. Some ideas I have would be to find out
what the seniors would like to do at the center and find ways to incorporate those into the center. I also want to include the youth in helping
out more about the center thought a variety of activities (e.g., random acts of kindness).
On a personal note, I'm also a senior lecturer at San Jose State University and teach a life span class. I teach about topics related to late
adulthood in this class and the importance of keeping the brain and body active, having meaningful relationships, and feeling connected to
your community. Throughout the course, we discuss how important it is to balance cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being at
every stage of life. I would love for a chance to support the Dublin senior citizens by keeping these domains in mind as I help think through
how to help our senior citizens. In addition, I work with Akhila Health a non-profit that supports marginalized women at various shelters
across the Bay Area. I facilitate workshops on emotional intelligence and well-being and this is also another avenue that can be explored far
the center.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
San Jose State University
Founder of Social Edge
The Art of Living, Sky Meditation and Breathing
Akhila Health Non -Profit (EQ workshop facilitator)
Girl Scouts Co -Troop Leader
What is your impression of the programs and services offered for seniors through the Dublin Senior Center?
Awonderful list of activities and programs for seniors. I would like to find out what the seniors would like to incorporate if a survey went out.
I also have several ideas that were listed above.
Have you or a family member participated in the programs, services, or events offered at the Dublin Senior Center?
Yes, my grandmother has attended the Bingo and Yoga classes :)
Are there additional programs and services that should be offered through the Dublin Senior Center? Please describe.
I would love to see more diverse games like Carmen being offered. As stated, I would love the opportunity to talk to seniors in the community
to find out what other activities they would like. I would also like to involve the youth in the programs and activities to help the seniors in our
community. I am part of a Girl Scouts troop and we are currently working with TriValley Haven to support that organization by creating a
game cart for their homeless shelter (a cart with board games for Sojourner House) and helping with the food bank. I can think of many ways
the youth in our society can help seniors with technology, moving (transitions with moving in/out of homes), and having conversations
through random acts of kindness.
What do you feel are some of the most pressing issues facing senior adults in the City of Dublin?
Being able to find like-minded friendships, transportation to attend the activities at the senior center, awareness of events, and motivation to
attend.

If yes, what year?
Why are you interested in serving on the Senior Center Advisory Committee?
As the average age of Dublin's residents increases, our public infrastructure and services must adapt to the needs of an aging population. As
a daughter with aging family and a disability rights advocate, I am interested in ensuring that our infrastructure is kept up-to-date, so as to
maintain the quality -of --living for all residents.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
9
I am currently a member of the UC Berkeley Alumni Association; Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, a legal nonprofit providing low-income
members of the Bay Area community with services in eviction defense, elder and disability rights, domestic violence advocacy, and
immigration law; Cal4Canto, an advocacy organization aiming to expand Cantonese education at UC Berkeley; and Move CA Forward as a
member of the Young Leaders Advisory Council, which provides youth perspectives on California economic and housing policy to the public
sector.
What is your impression of the programs and services offered for seniors through the Dublin Senior Center?
The Dublin Senior Center excels at providing services aimed at improving senior health and wellness. Culturally -relevant programs such as
mahjong and tai-chi are particularly impressive, and the Center should continue an this trajectory by expanding its exercise programs to
engage the South Asian Community —another notable community of color in the area.
In terms of leisure and providing seniors with the opportunity to band with Dublin community members, the city's programming (ie. all -day
excursions) is quite comprehensive.
Have you or a family member participated in the programs, services, or events offered at the Dublin Senior Center?
My mother has attended ping pong at the Dublin Senior Center.
Are there additional programs and services that should be offered through the Dublin Senior Center? Please describe.
While the Dublin Senior Center offers 4-5 Legal aid sessions throughout the year, the Center should consider expanding its educational
outreach. Out of these sessions, only one session is dedicated to elder abuse (see Dublin activity guide). As a legal professional who has
provider elder abuse training on topics from financial scams to dating violence, I understand the importance of hosting continuous trainings
to warn senior residents of the constantly -evolving forms of elder abuse occurring within the state. As a member of the Senior Center
Advisory Committee, I would advocate for an expansion of our legal programs in multilingual languages (ie. Spanish, Hindi, Cantonese,
Mandann).
What do you feel are some of the most pressing issues facing senior adults in the City of Dublin?
Food insecurity is one of the most pressing yet understudied issues facing senior adults in Dublin, CA. According to a recent census
(https:flwww.seniorcare.cornldirectoryfcaldublin/#acs_footnote), 25% of residents aged 60 and over received food stamps within one year.
While the annual average household income (nearly $200K) is considerably high in Dublin, there still remains a significant portion of our
population, most notably our seniors, who continue to face food insecurity.
While the Dublin Senior Center is making strides to alleviate food insecurity in the long run through its health -conscious programming and by
hosting food drives, the Center should take steps like expanding its educational partnerships with government agencies (ie. Cal Fresh) and
targeting outreach to monolingual/non English -speakers in the area. Oftentimes, monolingual speakers may be unaware they qualify for
CalFresh and other food pantry programs, either based on income level or immigration status.

What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a
family member participated in a program sponsored by the Department?
I have a comprehensive and robust knowledge base about the wide variety of programs offered through the Dublin Parks and Community
Services Department. My comprehension sterns from personal experience as well as engagement and research. At a young age, I began
participating in Irish Dancing classes, facilitated by the Dublin Parks and Community Services Department. This experience served as one of
my earliest encounters with community involvement in Dublin and instilled in me the deep impact that community engagement can have.
This demonstrated how recreation can serve as a catalyst for fostering connections within our City.
I have actively used resources such as the Dublin Activity Guide as a source for exploration of the various offerings and opportunities far
involvement. From a young age, the importance of community involvement was instilled in me which fostered the desire in all my family
members to participate in Dublin sponsored programs, exemplified by my grandfather who visited the Dublin Senior Center every weekday,
my mother taking a quilting course facilitated by the facilitated by the Parks and Community Services Department, and my siblings and I
participating in swimming lessons each summer through the City of Dublin. I was raised with the central principle that involvement in City
programs does not only enrich our individual lives but also contributes to the collective fabric of our community. This foundational belief has
motivated me to continually seek out and support the initiatives championed by the Dublin Parks and Community Services Department.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and parklfacility reservations?
I firmly believe that user fees for recreation programs and park and facility reservations are essential for ensuring the maintenance and
accountability of our parks and facilities. The current breakdown of user fees is well -structured, with a clear emphasis on prioritizing the
enjoyment of these spaces for Dublin residents and community members. From a functional perspective, I recognize that parks and facilities
serve not only as spaces for recreation but also as practical hubs within our community, fulfillingvanaus needs through their designs and
objectives. In addition, I view user fees for recreation programs as playing a crucial functional role, supporting maintenance, program
development, staffing, and ensuring the sustainability and accessibility of recreational offerings for the community. I wholeheartedly support
initiatives such as the Dublin Fee Assistance program, which aligns closely with my personal mission of eliminating financial barriers to
access, through program and policy development. It is imperative that economic status should not bar access to vital recreational spaces and
programs, and the Dublin Fees Assistance program seeks to ensure that all Dublin community members have equitable access to
recreational opportunities.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
I wholeheartedly believe that making decisions for the overall good of the community, even if they are unpopular with certain neighbors,
residents, or organizations, requires a delicate balance of empathy, transparency, and strong commitment to the greater good. Drawing from
my experience in community engagement, I understand the importance of ensuring that all voices are heard and respected throughout the
decision -making process. While it is inevitable that some decisions may not align with the preferences of certain individuals or groups, it is
imperative to prioritize the well-being and long-term interests of the entire community.
In these situations, I would approach the decision -making process with a dedication to fostering open communication and transparency. It is
essential to provide clear explanations for the reasoning behind decisions, as well as to actively solicit input and feedback from affected
parties. By maintaining a transparent dialogue and ensuring that community members feel heard and supported, even in instances of
disagreement, we can work towards building trust and understanding within our community. Ultimately, my commitment lies in making
decisions that uphold the collective well-being and advance the shared goals and values of our Dublin community, even if they may be met
with initial resistance from some residents.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
As a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission, I am poised to make several significant contributions that reflect both my
personal experiences and my professional expertise. First, as a long-term resident of Dublin, I bring a unique perspective that is shaped by
my upbringing in the City's parks and recreational spaces. My journey as a Dublin community member from childhood to young adulthood
allows me to give a voice to the evolving role these spaces and community services serve in the lives of Dublin residents across various age
groups. Additionally, as a young adult representative, I am committed to amplifying the voice and addressing the needs of residents aged 20-
29, ensuring their perspectives are integral to decision -making processes and creating recreational programs and events that engage this age
group.
In addition, I am deeply passionate about environmental sustainability and community development, as evidenced by my professional
experience as a Community Engagement Coordinator at GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit organization that leverages state funds to provide
low-income qualified Bay Area residents with no -cost solar systems, to create economic and environmental justice. Utilizing this knowledge, I
aim to advocate for and implement initiatives that promote environmental stewardship while creating accessible, safe, and inclusive spaces
for all community members. My personal mission aligns closely with the City of Dublin's vision of a "New American Backyard", where the
beauty of our City is shared, maintained, and enjoyed by everyone.
12
I aspire to enhance community connection through the development of events and activities that foster a sense of belonging and cohesion
among residents. This includes community -centered events such as pop-up parks, regular community bike rides, and parks passports where
residents cand document the parks they have visited and encourage them to explore recreational spaces in Dublin that they may not have
been exposed to. These strengthen social bonds within our diverse community and model the way that parks and recreational spaces serve
as social infrastructure, creating vital ties between Dublin community members.
In summary, my multifaceted background, 23 years as a Dublin resident, passion for environmental sustainability, and commitment to
fostering community connection position me to be a proactive and an effective member of the Parks and Community Services Commission.
am dedicated to utilizing my experiences and expanding my understanding of urban and community planning to contribute meaningfully to
the betterment of Dublin far all of its residents.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I am deeply passionate about serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission because of my unwavering commitment to the
Dublin community and my vision to cultivate community centers in every aspect of our City. The opportunity to advocate for the community
and have a voice in decision -making processes resonates deeply with me. I am driven by a desire for community outreach and connection,
with a specific focus on enhancing our parks and recreation facilities.
Dublin's unique blend of natural resources, recreational facilities, rich traditions, and diverse cultural makeup make it a truly special place,
compelling both myself and others to forge a sense of community within this remarkable environment Through my experiences, I have
learned firsthand what true community means through the residents of Dublin. Events like the Dublin Farmer's Market, Splatter, community
bike rides, and our St. Patrick's Day celebration serve as vibrant expressions of our community spirit.
Growing up in Dublin, parks and recreational programs played a pivotal role in my life. As a child, they served as an extension of our
backyard, fostering opportunities for creativity and connection with neighborhood friends. Now, these same spaces hold a different
significance, providing avenues for reconnecting with old friends, enjoying essential recreation in nature, and creating lasting memories.
The parks and community spaces in Dublin are undeniably the heart and soul of our town, where countless memories are made and
cherished. Particularly during the challenging times of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, parks within Dublin and the greater Tn-Valley region
served as vital lifelines, offering safe havens for community members to remain connected and rooted to our outstanding natural resources.
My perspective is rooted in an equity and accessibility lens, believing that everyone should have equal access to the benefits of our parks and
recreational opportunities. Witnessing families and friends come together at Dublin parks and the farmers market, sharing meals, making
memories, and appreciating our communal spaces, reaffirms my belief in the transformative power of these environments.
Having grown up near Dolan Park, I recognize the privilege of having such a valuable asset in close proximity. My years of living in Dublin
have provided me with a deep understanding of the City, its community, its development, and its aspirations. I am eager to leverage this
understanding to contrbute meaningfully to the continued growth and enrichment of our beloved City through service on the Parks and
Community Services Commission.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
Dedicated volunteer at Diablo Day Camp Little Hills Ranch for the past ten years, directing a unit of 25 campers, constructing educational
programming, and serving as a Training Director far 75 camp counselors annually.
Active volunteer at St. Raymond's Church Food Bank, assisting with the construction, packing, and distribution of over 250 boxes of food
items monthly, and participating in community events such as the Tri-Valley Thanksgiving Outreach Dinner and the St. Raymond's Fall
Festival.
What knowledge do you have of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, such as the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon
Community Center, or The Wave? Have you or a family member rented facilities with the City of Dublin?
I possess a comprehensive understanding of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, including the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon
Community Center, and The Wave. My knowledge extends beyond mere familiarity, as I have actively engaged with these facilities through
various events and activities. I have attended a diverse range of gatherings, from wedding receptions at the Shannon Community Center, to
quinceaneras and athletic banquets at the Dublin Senior Center, and high school commemorative afternoons at The Wave. Additionally, I
have participated in dance classes, Youth Advisory Committee meetings, and town hall sessions with state politicians held at these facilities.
Furthermore, my family members have utilized these City -owned facilities for various purposes, including renting spaces for events or
gatherings. These firsthand experiences have provided me with valuable insights into the amenities, capabilities, and importance of these
community spaces within Dublin. My variety of interactions with these facilities underscore my commitment to and appreciation for the role
they play in fostering community engagement, enrichment, and connectivity within our City.
13
How can the City provide better equity and inclusion to all persons that use our parks, trails, and facilities, and access our
programs?
The City of Dublin has a pivotal role in fostering equity and inclusion for all individuals who utilize our parks, trails, facilities, and programs.
This commitment begins with the proactive elimination of barriers to access, including financial obstacles. By effectively advertising City
programs that offer fee assistance, we can ensure that financial constraints do not prevent anyone from enjoying the benefits of our
recreational offerings.
It is imperative that our parks, trails, and facilities are physically accessible to all, and that events are planned, and decisions are conducted
with the needs of people with disabilities in mind. This entails not only ensuring that facilities are ADA compliant and providing designated
parking but also ensuring the availability of benches and rest spaces to accommodate individuals with varying needs. We must strive to make
our spaces accessible from a sensory standpoint, particularly for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, by considering
factors such as noise levels and sensory -friendly amenities. In addition, the City of Dublin can further accessibility efforts by implementing
assistive web technology for key recreation resources including the website, DublinRecGuide.com, to guarantee the virtual resources that
allow residents to book events in parks and recreational facilities are accessible to individuals with disabilities.
In the pursuit of equity and inclusion, the City must continue to implement robust anti -discrimination policies and reporting mechanisms to
address any instances of bias or prejudice. Open channels for communication and feedback are essential for community members to
express concems and suggest improvements, fostering a culture of accountability and responsiveness within our City. In addition, these
efforts can be enhanced by offering educational programs for City staff, Committee members, including the members of the Parks and
Community Services Commission, and residents on topics related to equity and inclusion. In various roles, as an employee at GRID
Alternatives, volunteer at Diablo Day Camp, and previously as the Vice President of Diversity Equity and Inclusion for the Kappa Alpha Theta
Fraternity, I have aided in shaping curriculums and participated in irnpactful programming centered around equity, and I have personally
experienced the profound impact that this training investment can have on decision -making processes and community engagement.
Additionally, showcasing the diversity of our community and paying homage the Indigenous peoples and the history of Dublin are critical
aspects of promoting inclusivity. By continuing to celebrate our community's rich tapestry of cultures and traditions through raising
awareness of important cultural dates and initiatives on social media or events such as Pride Night at the Dublin Farmer's Market, we create
spaces that are welcoming and affirming for all residents.
Another important priority is ensuring that accommodations are readily available to meet the diverse needs of our residents. This may
include providing interpretation services and investing in culturally responsive signage and promotional materials in languages other than
English
By embracing these principles and taking concrete actions to implement them, the City of Dublin can create a more equitable and inclusive
environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered to participate fully in our parks, trails, facilities, and programs.

What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a
family member participated in a program sponsored by the Department?
Parks and Community Services Departments offer many programs and activities for people of all ages, including:
Recreation programs, Cultural programs, Educational programs, Youth programs, Senior programs, Community events, etc.
My brother participated in the Youth Advisory Committee twice.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and parklfacility reservations?
User fees for recreation programs and parkffacility reservations are common practices in many communities. These fees are often
implemented to help offset the costs associated with maintaining recreational facilities, organizing programs, and providing services to the
community.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
Making decisions for the overall good of the community, even if they are unpopular with some individuals or organizations, is often a
challenging aspect of governance. There are often competing interests and priorities. Decision -makers must carefully weigh these different
perspectives and prioritize actions that will have the most significant positive impact an the community as a whole, even if they are
unpopular with specific groups. Decision -makers must be transparent and communicate the rationale behind their choices to the
community. Engaging with residents, neighbors, and organizations throughout the decision -making process can help identify potential
concerns early on and develop solutions that balance different interests more effectively. I believe decision -makers should always act with
integrity and prioritize ethical principles, such as fairness, justice, and respect for human rights, in their decision -making process.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
As a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission, the most important contribution I can make is to serve as an advocate for
the well-being and interests of the community.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I am interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission because I have a passion for the community, a desire to make a
difference, and a commitment to public service.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
I am a student at Unitek College in Concord. I am currently getting training to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
What knowledge do you have of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, such as the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon
Community Center, or The Wave? Have you or a family member rented facilities with the City of Dublin?
Yes, I trained to become a Lifeguard at the Wave. I have attended the Health Fair with my grandmother at the Senior Center and have
attended events at the Shannon Community Center. My family has rented Schefer Ranch park for a private event.
How can the City provide better equity and inclusion to all persons that use our parks, trails, and facilities, and access our
programs?
I believe promoting equity and inclusion in parks, trails, facilities, and programs is essential for ensuring that all community members have
equal access to resources, opportunities, and experiences. Some strategies the City can consider are:
Community Engagement, Accessible Facilities and Programs, Equitable Distribution of Resources, Affordable and Flexible Programming,
Cultural Competency and Sensitivity Training, Outreach and Marketing, Youth and Senior Programs, Language Access. By prioritizing equity
and inclusion in parks, trails, facilities, and programs, the City can create a more welcoming, accessible, and vibrant community where all
residents can thrive and participate fully in recreational opportunities.

What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a family
member participated in a program sponsored by the Department?
As a Dublin resident For the past nine years, I have used the services provided by Dublin Parks and recreation extensively. My kids (11 and 6 year old) 21
regularly take classes provided through Dublin rec, starting from Wave swimming classes, Tennis lessons, Kids For Soccer classes and many more. We
have also reserved spaces for birthday parties at various Dublin location, through Rec. My elder kid has also availed the after -school rec program at
Amador Elementary. It has also become my habit to check the recreation guide as soon as it is published so that we can reserve our spots at the
earliest.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and park/facility reservations?
Fees are very generous. We need to look into the accounting books and figure out the impact on the exchequer and accordingly take steps to rationalize
the fees, compared to our neighborhood cities.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
Dublin is the home of rational individuals. Even if we take an unpopular decision, if we socialize that evenly within the community, I am definitely we can
get a consensus.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
Coming from a Consultiing background (professionally), I can contribute in strategy, long term/short term planning, event planning and any other
activities related to the smooth functioning of Dublin Park and recreation.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
Dublin is my adopted hometown and my family has long term interest in Dublin. Dublin Park and Recreation has an very important part to play in
keeping the city vibrant and lively. Rather than sitting on the fence, I would like to participate and make my contribution in this goal.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.

What knowledge do you have of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, such as the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon Community
Center, or The Wave? Have you or a family member rented facilities with the City of Dublin?
I do have extensive knowledge about Wave as my family members have regularly taken classes there. We have attended birthday parties in these
facilities as well. I do not have much info on the Senior Center though.
How can the City provide better equity and inclusion to all persons that use our parks, trails, and facilities, and access our programs?
I have a few idea, one of them being including Corporates organize their events in the trails and parks of Dublin. I am associated with Oracle and Kaiser
Permanente ( Pleasanton) Heartwalk and if we can bring them in Dublin, we can have more participation. Dublin's diversity needs also be
acknowledged, which could be done by recognizing some diverse events in our facilities

What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a family

was previously the Recreation Supervisor for the City of Piedmont, running our youth programs and special events, so I have a strong base of
knowledge about parks and community services. Specifically for the City of Dublin, my kids have participated in various city events and camps
23
throughout the summers. I have worked with city staff in reserving city facilities for Dublin Little League, Briarhill Swim Team and Murray Elementary
School.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and park/facility reservations?
They are necessary to continue to provide facilities that are up-to-date and cared for. I do believe that we need to be responsible in terms of what those
fees are but they are necessary.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
Again, similar to above sometimes it is necessary. It all comes down to communication and transparency and while people w II continue to be upset with
an unpopular opinion, if we can share how we got there and why, the hope would be that we can help ease some people's minds (you will never please
everyone). I was on the school district boundary committee recently and there were several unpopular decisions that had to be made for the overall
good of our community but as I have been able to have conversations with families and explain the complexities, there is usually an understanding that
happens.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I will bring a deep dedication to the process with an open mind and a desire to truly make our city better.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I care deeply about this community. My kids are 4, 6 and 8 and we intend to continue to raise them here throughout high school and beyond and that is
my reason why. I believe in being involved in your community and this commission in particular speaks to me. I think I can bring a new perspective but
also a level of understanding of the challenges that this commission might face. I am dedicated and excited about the opportunity to do more for our
city.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
Dublin Little League - Board Member
Dublin Unified School District - Parcel Tax Committee and LCAP Committee
Briarhill Swim Team - Board Member
Murray Elementary School - PFC Co -President
What knowledge do you have of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, such as the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon Community
Center, or The Wave? Have you or a family member rented facilities with the City of Dublin?
I am very familiar with the Shannon Community Center in particular. I have reserved Shannon on a few occasions for various events in the last few
years. I am aware of the Senior Center and The Wave but have not rented them.
How can the City provide better equity and inclusion to all persons that use our parks, trails, and facilities, and access our programs?
I would love to see the city out in the community more and bring the information to the community, as a true partner with city organizations. Outside of
flyers/activity guides we receive, there doesn't seem to be a ton of information about what is going on, which automatically limits people that have
access.

What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a

Growing up, we had a park right in front of our house which was a bug influence on my life. And I was an active member of our community to
improve awareness about keeping the parks and the equipments in their clean. Help with organizing several drives and programs like blood
drive, donation camps and even community sports events.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and parklfacility reservations?
Each resident pays city tax which entails certain facilities provided to them. In addition there may be other sources of funding available which
is used in the betterment of the lifestyle of the city. However, if certain programs do need some additional cover charges or fees, I don't
necessarily think it's a bad thing. As with the additional fees, additional programs are offered on top of the basic facilities the city provides
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
I am a stronger believer of determining short term gain vs long term gain for every decision that is taken. Specially the ones which impacts
thousands of lives. Some decisions appears unpopular because it might be a short term gain. However it could be a long term loss. We have
to think about present and a long term strategic planning to making decision.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I am a very goal oriented person which is what I bring to the table to have everyone align an the North Star. In case of conflicts, I empathize

respected.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I have lived in Dublin for last 1 oyears out of the 12years I had lived in the US. I chose this city to live because I love the city. In the past when
an opportunity had presented itself for me to volunteer, I could not do it because of my work commitments. Now with work from home

I am very familiar with the wonderful programs Dublin offers. My boys have participated in summer camps and classes for many years
through the city. As a school counselor at DHS, I also encourage my students to take classes and volunteer through the city. We attend
festivals and farmers markets and use the city's library and wonderful parks as well.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and parklfacility reservations?
I understand that they are necessary to keep facilities up and running correctly.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or

I understand the need for that at times, especially if the public does not understand or know about details that can make decisions difficult
for all.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I love my community and have served it in many ways in the past. I was on the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission for eight years and
was a Dublin Sister City Association board member for many years. I am a DHS school counselor and know what it is like to work with and for
the public. I think I have great organizational and communication skills because of my experiences as well.

What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a
family member participated in a program sponsored by the Department?
I have not participated in any of the programs yet, but as a board member of my HOA I create monthly newsletters that showcase all the
programs and events that go on throughout the City for our residents. I would like to take this opportunityto get more involved with my
community. I am fairly new to Dublin and want to be involved in my city.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and park/facility reservations?
I feel that it would be a dream come true if we could make all recreation programs free to citizens of Dublin, but it is not logical. Programs
cost money. Paying City staff to stay later at Rec Halls, or coming in early to help set up costs the city. Also, having the Parks Department
come out and set up fields, all that costs time and money. One thing I feel that could be looked into is Seniors not being charged with certain
criterial. In a way, like giving a senior discount. Also, discounts for classes that are not filling up. An example would be if a class is not fi Iling
up, giving a discount to anyone that had already signed up.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
I work for the City of Pleasanton and am part of many groups and committees in the City. Often times, there are decisions that are made that
are not popular with everyone. The key thing to remember is when making a decision making sure everyone involved with the decision feels
heard, and respected. Also, transparency is important. Letting all parties know that, though they may not by happy with the decision, these
are the reasons why this decision was made. And, that decision was only made to do what was best for the Community.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
The most important contribution I can make is my time and knowledge. I work as a Geographical Information Systems Technician with the
City of Pleasanton, I make maps and do data analysis with all parts of the City. I work closely with East Bay Regional Parks, and have worked
on maps that overflow into Dublin, like the Iron Horse Trail. I work with the GIS team in Dublin on items that are going on throughout the City.
I am very familiar with how the City of Dublin functions as a whole. My contribution is coming with knowledge of how Citys work.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
I want to become more part of my community. I have recently moved here and want to get more involved. I grew up in the City of San
Leandro, and as a kid I was involved in all Recreations programs. I would wait for recreation magazine to come in the mail and see what
classes and programs I could sign up for. I signed up for programs such as hockey, tennis, swimming, dance, softball, baseball, soccer, and I
was a lifeguard for 3 years at the Manor Public Pool. I loved the feeling growing up of being part of a community. As an adult, I want to have
the same feeling, and what better way than to help plan activities and make decisions for your community.

DEI Committee Member for the City of Pleasanton
What knowledge do you have of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, such as the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon
Community Center, or The Wave? Have you or a family member rented facilities with the City of Dublin?
I have not rented from any facilitates in Dublin, but I am not unfamiliar with renting facilities processes. When 1 worked on a Committee in
San Jose, 1 worked as an event planer, where I hosted many events and had to rent Halls, Gymnasiums, Parks, ect. I also help create
applications for Community members in the City of Pleasanton. Though, I may not have rented from a facility in Dublin, I am aware of the
process and am a fast learner.
How can the City provide better equity and inclusion to all persons that use our parks, trails, and facilities, and access our
programs?
Making all Community members feel included and heard is important. The demographics for Dublin is changing. In regards to specifically
parks, facilities, and trails, having programs that are for all demographics is important. Doing our best to make trails ADA compliant. Making
parks feel safe for everyone. Placing flyers of programs in restaurants. Having ways of transportation, or making online programs making it
easier to attend.
One of the best way is doing polls and listening to the community members thoughts and concerns. Each circumstance is different and
all we can do is arm ourselves with more knowledge that can help make the community better.

Application Questions
If yes, what year?
What knowledge do you have of the programs offered through the Parks and Community Services Department? Have you or a family
member participated in a program sponsored by the Department?
There are many programs offered through the several divisions within the Parks and Community Services Department, such as, Preschool and after- 33
school programs; youth and adult fitness classes; Jr. Warriors Basketball Programs, and year-round swim lessons and fitness swimming in The Wave at
Emerald Glen Park. etc.
How do you feel about user fees for recreation programs and park/facility reservations?
I think those user fees are reasonable and necessary in order for us to provide all the residents in Dublin with more recreation programs continuously,
and better park/facility to make our city a great place to live in California.
How do you feel about making a decision for the overall good of the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents, or
organizations?
If the decision is good for the community but unpopular with neighbors, residents or organizations, I would consider the long-term impact of the
decision of the community, and I will do my best to keep an effective communication with the community members and organizations to ensure that
my communicate the reasons for my decision clearly and transparently to the community. Of course, I will also get input from the community to
understand their perspectives and concerns; in addition, I will explore compromise solutions or alternative approaches which may create a win -win
situation in the future.
What is the most important contribution you can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission?
The most important contribution I can make as a member of the Parks and Community Services Commission is to act as a dedicated steward of
community well-being, advocating for and shaping policies and programs that enhance the quality of life for residents; to act as a bridge between the
community and local government by engaging with residents to understand their needs, preferences and concerns related to parks and community
services.
Why are you interested in serving on the Parks and Community Services Commission?
As 13 years resident living in Dublin, I love to contribute myself to our community services to promote community well-being. And, as a 15+ years real
estate brokerage owner in bay area, I believe that the commission roles offer opportunities for leadership development. Therefore, in the past few
years, I had volunteered actively in our community in Dublin. In the past, I served in Dublin school district budget committee, and served in Dublin High
School and Dougherty Elementary as a school site council member, and a vice-president of PFC in Dougherty Elementary as well.
In what organizations are you currently a member? Please list.
I am a member of Bay East Association of Realtors, a member of California Association of Realtors, a member of National Association of Realtors; plus,
I also joined the Rotary Club of Dublin.
What knowledge do you have of the City -owned community facilities in Dublin, such as the Dublin Senior Center, Shannon Community
Center, or The Wave? Have you or a family member rented facilities with the City of Dublin?
The Dublin Senior Center is the best meeting place for all the seniors, and it provides them with different classes as well; and Shannon Community
Center is the place providing everybody in Dublin with a banquet hall, a full catering kitchen, preschool classrooms, meeting rooms which can be rented
by residents. My own kids used to attend preschool classes in Shannon Community Center, and swimming classes in The Wave many years ago.
How can the City provide better equity and inclusion to all persons that use our parks, trails, and facilities, and access our programs?
First of all, we need to ensure that all parks, trails, and facilities are designed and maintained with inclusivity in mind; and we shall ask for input and
feedback from our community to better understand all the community members' needs and preferences; and then, we shall offer a wide range of
programs that cater to various age groups, interests, and cultural backgrounds. Of course, we will also ensure that programs are affordable and
accessible to all community members.
