CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 2. PRESENTATIONS 2.1 2023-24 Youth Advisory Committee Mini -Grant Recipient Presentations The Youth Advisory Committee will receive presentations from Mini -Grant recipients, including how grant funds were used and project impacts. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the presentations from the 2023-24 Youth Mini -Grant recipients. Staff Report 3. PUBLIC COMMENT At this time, the public is permitted to address the Youth Advisory Committee on non- agendized items. Please step to the podium and clearly state your name for the record. COMMENTS SHOULD NOT EXCEED THREE (3) MINUTES. In accordance with State Law, no action or discussion may take place on any item not appearing on the posted agenda. The Committee may respond to statements made or questions asked, or may request Staff to report back at a future meeting concerning the matter. Any member of the public may contact the Recording Secretary's Office related to the proper procedure to place an item on a future Youth Advisory Committee agenda. The exceptions under which the Committee MAY discuss and/or take action on items not appearing on the agenda are contained in Government Code Section 54954.2(b)(1)(2)(3). 4. CONSENT CALENDAR Consent Calendar items are typically non -controversial in nature and are considered for approval by the Youth Advisory Committee with one single action. Members of the audience, Staff or the Youth Advisory Committee who would like an item removed from the Consent Calendar for purposes of public input may request the Chair to remove the item. April 24, 2024 Dublin Youth Advisory Committee Agenda 2 2 VM DUBLI N CALIFORNIA DATE: April 24, 2024 STAFF REPORT Youth Advisory Committee TO: Honorable Chair and Committee Members FROM: Jackie Dwyer, Parks & Community Services Director Agenda Item 2.1 SU 13,1ECT: 2023-24 Youth Advisory Committee Mini -Grant Recipient Presentations Prepared by.- Nicki Wanzenried, Recreation Coordinator EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Youth Advisory Committee will receive presentations from Mini -Grant recipients, including how grant funds were used and project impacts. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the presentations from the 2023-24 Youth Mini -Grant recipients. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Fiscal Year 2023-24 City of Dublin Youth Mini -Grant Program is supported by the General Fund in the amount of $2,500. DESCRIPTION: The Youth Mini -Grant Program was established in Fiscal Year 2012-13 to support youth organizations that offer programs for middle and high school students. Each year, Dublin -based youth organizations/clubs have an opportunity to apply for grant funding. Grant funds are to be used to assist in offering activities, including performing arts, sports, multicultural, health awareness, and other activities that support projects or programs that benefit Dublin youth. Funding is recommended annually by the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), reviewed by the Parks and Community Services Commission, and awarded by the City Council to organizations/clubs that best meet the needs of Dublin youth. On December 19, 2023, the City Council approved funding for the following groups: 1. Dublin High School (DHS) Green Earth Club 2. DHS National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) 3. DHS Speech and Debate Pagel of 2 3 4. Dublin Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) 5. Gardeners of the Galaxy 6. The Student Climate Corps As projects near completion, each grant recipient will provide the YAC with a brief report on how funds were used and updates for their projects. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the update from the 2024 Dublin Benefit Concert Ad Hoc Committee. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: Each year the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) establishes a work plan that serves as a guide for accomplishing goals and objectives during the service term. At the August 23, 2023, meeting, members discussed goals for the 2023-24 work plan. Upon discussion and receipt of feedback, the YAC agreed to plan and host the 2024 Dublin Benefit Concert. The concert will take place at the Dublin Farmers' Market on May 2, 2024. Acts will include Dublin -based youth and senior organizations, clubs, and programs that provide performing arts, multicultural awareness, or other youth/senior related activities. The event benefits the Dublin Fee Assistance Program. All YAC members must be present at the event to assist with logistics. On November 15, 2023, the YAC appointed six members to the Benefit Concert Ad Hoc Committee. The Ad Hoc committee met on January 10, 2024, March 13, 2024, and March 27, 2024, to discuss objectives from the work plan. The objectives are outlined below. o Objective 1 - Establish the timeline and work plan for the event and appoint a minimum of four members to an ad hoc committee at the November 15, 2023, Pagel of 2 9 Special Meeting. o Objective 2 - Solicit youth and senior performers from the Dublin Unified School District high and middle schools, Quarry Lane School, Valley Christian Schools, City contract youth and senior instructors, Dublin cultural arts businesses, and other venues where youth and senior artists perform starting on January 15, 2024. The application for performers will open on January 26, 2024, and close on March 12, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. o Objective 3 - The Ad Hoc Committee will review applications between March 13 and select performers by March 15, 2024. o Objective 4 - Create an event flyer for Staff review and advertise in the Spring Recreation Activity Guide, City website, City newsflash, and distributed by YAC members starting March 27, 2024. o Objective 5 - Attend, emcee, and implement the 2024 Dublin Benefit Concert on May 2, 2024, at the Farmer's Market in Emerald Glen Park. Members of the Ad Hoc Committee will provide the YAC with a status update on the event and workplan objectives. STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE: None.
