STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Recognize the contest winners. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for Dublin Pride Week activities is included in the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Operating Budget. DESCRIPTION: The 2024 Dublin Pride Week Celebration took place from Saturday, April 20, to Saturday, April 27, 2024. The theme for the 2024 Celebration was "Green City, Bright Future." Several events took place during the weeklong celebration, including the "Nature in Our Backyard" Photography Contest and the Dublin Pride Poster and Essay Contests supported by the General Federation of Women's Club Dublin/San Ramon chapter (GFWC). Nature in Our Backyard Photography Contest The sixth annual photo contest was open to photographers who snapped pictures in Dublin over the last 12 months. The submission period ran from February through April 1, 2024, with 193 submissions received. A panel of judges selected the top 10 photographs, which were posted to the City's website from April 16 to April 24, 2024, for a public vote. The top four photographs based on the public voting results are awarded gift cards and certificates of recognition from the City. The grand prize winner receives a $200 gift card, the first -place winner receives a $100 gift Page 1 of 4 1 card, the second -place winner receives a $50 gift card, and the third -place winner receives a $25 gift card. Mike's Camera of Dublin sponsored the 2024 event and donated large metal prints that will be provided to the contest winners. Additionally, framed photographs will be displayed in the Civic Center lobby. The 2024 "Nature in Our Backyard"Photography Contest winners are: • Grand Prize Winner: Remy Begin, "Double Dublin" • First Place Winner Bharathi Kakilate, "Golden Serenity" • Second Place Winner Prasad Takkar, "Fall" • Third Place Winner Rita Szollos, "Seasons Bounty" Dublin Pride Week Poster and Essay Contests Students in grades K-12 from all public and private schools in the City of Dublin were invited to participate in this year's contest. The poster and essay contest theme was "Green City, Bright Future." The GFWC handled the judging of the posters and essays. Each participant receives a Certificate of Merit. Grand prize winners receive a $100 gift card, first - place winners receive a $25 gift card, and second -place winners receive a $15 gift card. Lastly, a "Classroom Award" of $200 is presented to the class teacher of the Grand Prize winners of both the poster and essay contests. This gift can be spent at the teacher's discretion and is intended to assist with classroom activities and supply costs.
