DESCRIPTION: On May 6, 2003, the City Council awarded Contract No. 03-01,
Village Parkway Improvements - Amador Valley Boulevard to Dublin Boulevard, to Granite
Construction Company.
This contract consisted of improvements for three separate capital projects: Village Parkway/Lewis
Avenue Intersection Improvements (part of CIP #94060, Downtown Improvement Implementation),
Village Parkway Left-Turn Lane Extension at Lewis Avenue (CIP #96300) and Village Parkway Median
Landscaping between Dublin Boulevard and Amador Valley Boulevard (CIP #94615).
The Village Parkway/Lewis Avenue Intersection Improvements, which are part of the Downtown
Improvement Implementation capital project, included pedestrian enhancements with sidewalk bulbouts
(extensions of the sidewalk comers at the intersection into the roadway) and construction of a pedestrian
plaza with landscaping and sitting benches at the northeast comer of the intersection.
The improvements for the Village Parkway Left-Turn Lane Extension at Lewis Avenue increased the
storage capacity of the northbound Village Parkway left-turn lane at Lewis Avenue. This was to correct
vehicles stacking beyond the turning lane and blocking northbound through-traffic.
The Village Parkway Median Landscaping improvements removed existing landscaping and raised the
existing planting beds to match the grade of the paving stones. This included the replacement of irrigation
spray heads and the replanting of median islands with new landscaping on Village Parkway between
Amador Valley Boulevard and Dublin Boulevard.
The project has been satisfactorily completed and Staff recommends that the City Council accept
improvements under Contract No. 03-0 I, Village Parkway Improvements - Amador Valley Boulevard to
Dublin Boulevard, and authorize the release of retention after 35 days if there are no subcontractor claims.
