FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Sufficient funds are included in the Fiscal Year 2003-2004 Budget.' Other funds and in-kind donations will be provided by the following organizations: Waste Management, ANG Newspapers, Dublin Lion's Club, Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club, DSRSD, Dublin Chamber of Commerce and Citilinks. DESCRIPTION: Dublin Pride Week is an annual event, which seeks to promote a positive image for the City of Dublin. The overarching objective for Dublin Pride Week is to seek ways to engage individuals and/or groups in action based activities to help improve the community. This year, Dublin Pride Week is scheduled to start on Saturday, May 1st, and will conclude on Saturday, May 8th, 2004. The 2004 Dublin Pride Committee seeks to build on the success of the 2003 Dublin Pride Week by continuing its collaborative approach. The Committee is made up of 15 members representing the following groups: [] City Council [] City Staff n Dublin Unified School District [] Waste Management [] Dublin Chamber of Commerce [] DUblin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) [] Zone 7 Water Agency [] Boy Scouts [] Girl Scouts COPIES TO: ITEM NO. ~ It/cc-form$/agdastmt.doc [] Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club [] Dublin Lion's Club [] Community Volunteers In 2003 the Committee developed a branding logo that the community could associate with Dublin Pride Week. The attached poster and brochure utilize this branding logo with the 2004 slogan "Do Your Part!" The slogan encourages people to work to improve the community by participating in this year's Dublin Pride Week activities. The proposed 2004 Dublin Pride Activities are as follows: Community Blood Drive: In May, the American Red Cross is trying to build a large reserve of blood due to an expected drop-offin the summer attributed to donor vacations. The Blood Drive will take place in the Dublin Library' Community Room on Monday, May 3, 2004 from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. Poster Contest: The poster contest has been a Dublin Pride Week tradition for many years. This year the Dublin San Ramon Women's Club has'volunteered to organize and manage the contest. The Poster Contest is open to all Dublin students grades K-12. Winning artwork will be printed in the Th-Valley Herald and displayed at the Civic Center. Awards will be handed out at a Dublin City Council Meeting. School Giveaways: Dublin Pride promotional items will be given to each child that attends school in Dublin. This year's items include wildflower seed packets, environmental educational coloring and activity books 'and Pride Week key chain carabineers. Rose Planting: The City's first community rose bush garden was established at Emerald Glen Park as part of last year's Dublin Pride Week activities. Due to the popularity of last year's event, a final plot is being made available at Emerald Glen Park adjacent to the existing garden. Interested parties may purchase a rosebush for $25 to be planted in the garden. Donors will receive a special certificate indicating their "ownership" and ID number, similar to last year, when the new garden plot is complete, a plaque will be placed at the site with everyone's number and name on it. Canned Food Drive: Youth groups will be collecting non-perishable items throughout Dublin Pride Week. Electronic Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection: Dublin residents will be allowed to drop-off electronic and/or household hazardous waste free of charge. The event will be held at 5601 Arnold Drive (comer of Arnold and Central) on May 15th. An announcement with reservation information will be mailed to all residents the week of April 12th. Guided Nature Walks: On Saturday May 8th, naturalist and park ranger Patti Cole will lead a nature walk along the Alamo Creek Trail exploring the creek's diverse flora and fauna. "Volunteer Day" Pro,iects Volunteer Day is scheduled for Saturday May 8th and will conclude with a free BBQ provided by the Dublin Lion's Club. All Volunteers will also receive a free "2004 Dublin Pride Week" t-shirt designed by DSRSD. Volunteer Day projects include the following: Senior Assistance Projects: Volunteers will be helping elderly citizens take care of home maintenance projects such as painting, yard work, washing windows, etc. Creek Clean-Up Volunteers will meet at Emerald Glen Park to clean up Tassaj ara Creek. Community Improvement Projects Volunteers will choose from selected School and City Facility beautification projects. Activities may include painting, repairs, cleaning etc. ~PUBLIC OUTREACH: The success of Dublin Pride Week is largely dependent on the outreach campaign developed to increase the community's awareness and participation in the activities and volunteer opportunities. To that end, the Committee has focused on improving this year's public outreach efforts. The most important addition is the creation of the Dublin Pride Week website -www.dublinpfideweek.com. The website was developed as a way for participants to obtain up-to-date information on the various activities and volunteer opportunities surrounding Dublin Pride Week. The website also includes a place for volunteers to sign up to participate in any of the events. The website is highlighted on all other outreach materials including the following: ca Promotional posters- Dublin Police and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce will distribute posters (Attachment 1) that have been designed and printed by ANG Newspapers to area businesses and schools. Newsletters- Announcements will appear in school newsletters, City's merchant newsletter, Chamber of Commerce newsletter, and DSRSD newsletter. Dublin Pride Week Banners- Banners were included on the Waste Management float in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Reader Boards Public Service Announcement will be sent to the various radio stations. Press releases will be sent to area newspapers. CTV Video "Spots" to appear on cable channel 30 (Partially funded by Dublin Chamber of Commerce). ca Brochure- Dublin Pride Week brochure (Attachment 2) will be distributed to all community and faith based organizations in the City and placed at strategic locations .~ throughout the City. The budget for the 2004 Dublin Pride Weeks is included on the following page.
