CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: May 18, 2004
SUBJECT: Acceptance of Gifts to City from St. Patrick's Day Sponsors

RECOMMENDATION.'_ ~Recognize the sponsors and formally accept the contributions.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: $17,950 in monetary sponsorships was received.
DESCRIPTION: The 2004 St. Patrick's Celebration was held on SatUrday and
Sunday, March 13 &14, in downtown Dublin. Spring like weather added considerably to the popularity of
the event with attendance estimated at over 50,000 people. Registration for the Fun Run increased to over
1,500 runners this year. The Festival and Fun Run were well supported by local businesses. The City
received $17,950 in sponsorships for the weekend. In addition the City received overwhelming support in
the form of in-kind donations of goods and services. A list of the sponsors is shown below.

It should be noted that the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff's Association and the Alameda County
Firefighters - Local 55 sponsored the Fun Run registration competition between the elementary schools in
Dublin. Each organization donated $1,000 directly to the schools as prizes for the contest. Over the past
six years this contest has provided $10,000 to schools in Dublin.
Special recognition should also be given to World of Shoes of Dublin. For the past six years World of
Shoes has been the title sponsor for the Shamrock 5K Fun Run. The $15,000 in donations received from
World of Shoes has helped the City to develop this into a successful run attracting 1,500 runners from all
around the Bay Area. World of Shoes' dedication to the community promotes and supports a high quality
of life in Dublin.
In recognition of their contributions the sponsors will be presented with certificates of appreciation and
commemorative gifts for supporting the St. Patrick's Day events.
Per Government Code Section 37354, it is recommended that all gifts and contributions be formally
accepted by the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council recognize the sponsors and
formally accept the contributions.
