ART AT TIlE CROSSINGS
Event Components
Exhibition and programs will take place over a six-week period from August 19th through October 3rd at
the Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center with a small exhibition in the Civic Center Lobby. The
exhibition will consist of 8-10 large-scale outdoor sculptures in the plaza area of Hacienda Crossings and
small works in the cases at the Civic Center.
To kick-off the six-week event, an Opening Reception (by invitation only) will be held on the evening of
August 19 in a restaurant at Hacienda Crossings.
Artist Demonstrations will be held on a weekend in mid-September. Up to five artists or artist groups will
demonstrate the making of their art. This group may include: Mural Making, Glassblowing, Weaving,
Metal Arts, Ceramics (either hand-built or wheel throwing), Wood (carving or construction), Printmaking,
and Environmental Arts. The DFAF has verbal interest from artists who have artworks in the community
such as Ned Kahn (envirOnmental), Daniel Galvez (murals), and Johanna Poethig (ceramic tiles), as well
as artists creating metal works and glassblowing. These artists will have separate booths where they can
demonstrate their skills, display examples of their works, and interact with the public.
The closing event will be art making for all ages with the emphasis on youth. Artists will be available to
assist in working with the available materials, which may include paper and found objects for collage
making, paper and tools for printmaking, or clay for the creation of tiles or sculptures.
