FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The Swim Center employees volunteered their time to practice and compete. East Bay Pool Service paid for the team's entry fees. DESCRIPTION: In. July, employees from the Dublin Swim Center participated in the 2004 Northern California Lifeguard Games. This is the 16th year the event has been conducted by the Bay Area Public Pool Operators Association. The purpose ofthe Lifeguard Games is to motivate lifeguards to continually practice their rescue skills and improve safety at Northern California aquatic facilities. The Lifeguard Games includes events that test the lifeguards' ability to rescue active and submerged victims, perform CPR, place a spinal injury victim on a backboard, and work as a team. Twenty-six teams from throughout Northern California attended the competition. The City of Dublin sent a team that placed fourth in the overall competition. It should also be noted that Dublin Lifeguards Kristy Laird and Noel Sollom-Brotherton finished in second place for the two-guard CPR and the active victim rescue events, which is commendable considering there were 104 other competitors at the Lifeguard Games. Following are the employees that represented the City of Dublin at the competition: Alejandra Hernandez Kristy Laird Noel Sollom-Brotherton Daniel Stieber Sarah Willis Vivian Lau The City would like to commend these employees for their participation in the Lifeguard Games and for volunteering their time to train and compete in the event. Staff would also like to recognize Jim Vance for providing a $200 sponsorship to pay the entry fee for the team. Jim Vance is the owner of East Bay Pool Service, which provides pool maintenance services at the Dublin Swim Center. Participation in the Lifeguard Games benefited the community by strengthening the Lifeguards' ability to perform well during emergencIes.
