Approval of Consulting Agreement with WAN LAN Solutions
for network data switch installation

1) Resolution
Adopt Resolution to enter into an agreement with WAN LAN
Solutions and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement
Funding in the amount of $30,000 is included in the Internal Service
Fund equipment replacement budget
WAN LAN Solutions (WLS) has submitted a proposal to provide and install network data switches to
replace the City's aging equipment. The WLS proposal was the lowest in cost among the three proposals
received, but has also been determined to be comprehensive and to meet the needs for the City of Dublin.
The following table provides a cost comparison for the proposals that were obtained.

WLS qualifies as a specialized consultant in this field and submitted a proposal that was both detailed and
cost beneficial. The WLS proposal will not exceed the funds available in Internal Service Fund budget for
equipment replacement.
The WLS proposal will replace the aging network data switches that have been in operation since 1999
and are now due for replacement. Network data switches are a crucial component in establishing a
networked/connected computer environment. The City's computers, servers, and printers are connected to
network data switches that provide the access to the City's multi-user computer applications, to printing
services, to the E-mail system and to the Internet. The WLS proposal includes an equipment package
from a well -respected manufacturer in network data switching; with a reputation for solid/reliable data
switching equipment; competitive pricing; and an excellent warranty.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution for a services agreement with WAN LAN
Solutions and authorize the City Manager to execute that agreement.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN

Approval of Consulting Agreement with WAN LAN Solutions for network data switch installation
WHEREAS, the City utilizes critical data switching equipment on its computer network; and
WHEREAS, the City's data switching equipment has been in operation since 1999; and
WHEREAS, the City's data switching equipment is in need of replacement; and
WHEREAS, the City has researched the best replacement technology; and
WHEREAS, the City solicited and received bids for the needed replacement solution; and
WHEREAS, WAN LAN Solutions submitted the most thorough and cost effective proposal;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council adopt the resolution awarding
the bid to WAN LAN Solutions and authorizing the City Manager to execute the agreement.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of October, 2004.
