DESCRIPTION: . In January 2005, Staff distributed a Request for Proposals (RFP) for
tbe Dolan Park Play Equipment Replacement Project. The RFP sought proposals on play equipment
components and costs to replace the existing system.
By the January 31st deadline, proposals were submitted from Playgrounds by Design, California Sports
and Recreation, David O'Keefe Company and Kompan ranging in price rrom $40,288 to $48,921. Staff
subsequently reviewed all four based on the following criteria:
1) Ability to meet functional requirements in terms of variety and age appropriateness of play
elements, accessibility, safety considerations and ease of on-going maintenance.
2) Value of play apparatus and site improvements proposed.
3) Extent of manufacturer's "Green Building" program..
In evaluating prior play equipment installation projects; Staff estimates that the installation portion of the
project will be $31,000, which allows $39,000 for play equipment. At the February 14th meeting, the
Parks and Community Services Commission recommended the play equipment proposed by California
Sports and Recreation. Overall, California Sports and Recreation provided the greatest assortment and
number of play elements in comparison to tbe other proposals. In order to meet the available budget, the

Parks and Community Services Commission recommended that two of the three enclosed slides be
revised to open-air slides. By modifying the slides, the cost for the play equipment submittal from
California Sports and Recreation is reduced to $38,979.
The table below describes the am.ount and variety of components for the two play areas.

The installation aspect of this project will be completed under separate contract. Bids for installation will
be sought shortly after the vendor providing materials is determined. In consideration of tbe bidding and
award process required, construction is expected to commence May 2005.
RECOMMENDATION: It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council take the following
action:

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN

APPROVING A PURCHASE ORDER WITH CALIFORNIA SPORTS AND
RECREATION FOR PLAY EQUIPMENT AND WOOD FIBER
FOR DOLAN PARK
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin has solicited requests for proposal for new play equipment at
Dolan Park;
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin has received four proposals for play equipment; and
WHEREAS, upon review of all four proposals the Parks and Community Services Commission
recommends California Sports and Recreation; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does
accept the proposal from California Sports and Recreation Recreation,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council authorizes the City Manager to execute the
purchase order.
