AGENDA STATEMENT
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: September 20, 2005
SUBJECT: Agreement with the Zahn Group, Inc., for Design and
Construction Management Services, Fire Station 16 Repairs
Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Project
Report Prepared by: Melissa Morton, Public Works Director
ATTACHMENTS:
Resolution and Agreement
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the resolution approving the agreement with the Zahn Group,
Inc., for design and construction management services for Fire
Station 16 Repairs.
.Z
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The agreement proposes a not -to -exceed amount of $40,000.
Sufficient funds are budgeted in the Fire Station 16 Repairs CIP
Project for this work.
DESCRIPTION: In the Spring of 2005, the City Council approved an agreement with
the Zahn Group, Inc., to perform a water intrusion investigation at Fire Station 16 relative to ongoing
leaks in some areas of the building. The resulting report indicated that the leaks are from two sources,
certain areas of the roof and also some of the windows. It was further discovered that the windows were
installed incorrectly and therefore not only leak but also do not operate correctly.
A repair project has been outlined to repair the roof, correct the leaks and other problems related to the
windows, replace the failing heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, and also to paint the building
inside and out. Staff issued a Request for Proposals related to this project. After review of the two
proposals received, it is proposed that the Zahn Group prepare plans and specifications for the project and
provide bidding assistance and construction management services for this work.
The Zahn Group has provided similar services for a number of the City's CIP Projects, including Emerald
Glen Park Phase II, the Senior Center construction, the Civic Center Water Intrusion and Remediation
Project, and the Civic Center HVAC Replacement.
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution approving the agreement with the Zahn
Group, Inc., for design and construction management services for Fire Station 16 Repairs.
