This project is funded by Gas Tax monies (Fund 206).
The fY 2005-2006 budget includes improvements to be completed
as part of this Contract, as well as the 2005-2006 Annual Slurry Seal
Program scheduled for Summer 2006. Staff will seek authorization
to solicit bids for the 2005-2006 Program to complete the remaining
budgeted work in Spring 2006.
DESCRIPTION: On August 16, 2005, the City Council awarded Contract No. 05~08,
2004-2005 Annual Slurry Seal Program, to Valley Slurry Seal Company.
Slurry seal is a preventative maintenance technique used to prolong the life of asphalt concrete surfacing.
As streets begin showing wear and stress cracking, it is important to seal the cracks to keep water f¡-om

getting into the roadway subgrade. Slurry seal consists of a sand/oil mixture which seals cracks and
provides a ncw uniform wcaring surface.
The City's Pavement Management Program provides funding guidelines and priorities for proper1y
maintaining City streets. City streets are slurry sealed approximately every five to seven years, depending
upon the level of wear.
Funding for the 2004-2005 Annual Slurry Seal Program was rolled over into the FY 2005-2006 budget as
the work was postponed until the completion of the 2004-2005 Overlay Program. The total amount
budgeted in FY 2005-2006 for the Slurry Seal Program wil1 fund not only the 2004-2005 Program, but
also thc 2005-2006 Program, which is schcdu1ed for Summcr 2006. Staff will seek authorization to solicit
bids for the 2005-2006 Program to complete the remaining budgeted work in Spring 2006.
