FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: At the January 3, 2006 City Council meeting The Dahlin Group
presented the four conceptual plan options for the Shannon Community Center project along with the
recommendations of the Parks and Community Services Commission. The Council voted to support the
Commissions recommendation on Option #1 and requested that two style options (Craftsman and Mission
Styles) be refined and brought back for review
The Dahlin Group has made minor revisions to the building floor plan based on further input from City
Staff and the architect's sub-consultants. The architect has also prepared refmed building style
alternatives as well as possible color and material choices for review at the meeting.
The Dahlin Group presented the two style options at the February 13, 2006 Parks and Community
Services Commission Meeting. At that time the Commission received the report and input from members
of the public. Upon receiving comments the Commission discussed the two options. By unanimous vote,
the Commission recommended the revised conceptual floor plan and the Mission style option (as included
in the Schematic Design Package, Attachment 1) for the exterior design of the building.
Upon direction of the City Council the architect will move forward with the design development phase of
the project. This portion of the project will further refine the building architecture, materials, mechanical
and electrical systems as well as provide an updated cost estimate. It is anticipated that this phase will be
completed June of2006.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council: 1) receive presentation
from Staff and Consultants; 2) receive public comment; and 3) determine a preferred building style.
