HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.2 National Library Week A PROCLAIJ,IATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN CALIFORNIA a7fEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream - places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning, and a7fEREAS, our nation's public, academic, and specwlized libraries help people change the world; and IVHEREAS, libraries playa vital role in providmg millions of people with the resources they need to live, learn and work in the 21st century; and a7fEREAS, libraries are changing, dynamic places and librarians are the ultimate search engine, helping people of all ages find the information they need in print and online; and "'HEREAS, libraries bring you a world of knowledge both in person and online, as well as personal service and assistance infinding what you need, when you need it, and a7fEREAS, libraries are a key player in the national discourse on intellectual freedom, equity of access, and narrowing the "digital divide;" and a7fEREAS, more individuals must be recruited to the profession of librarians hip and to work in libraries to maintain their vitality in today's changing workplace, and IVHEREAS, awareness and support must be increased for libraries, librarians and library workers by raising their visibility in a positive context and by communicating clearly and strongly why libraries are both umque and valuable. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Janet Lockhart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim April 2-8, 2006 as "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" in the City of Dublin.
