DESCRIPTION: As part of the 2002-2003 Goals and Objectives, the Council requested that Staff "Coordinate a Commission/Committee Recognition, Mayor's Award Dinner & Program including Citizen/Organization of the Year Award with $250 cash prize for the winning organization and the favorite charity of the winning ciiizen." During Fiscal Year 2001-2002 a Council Sub-Committee of former Mayor Guy Houston and Councilmember George Zika developed the new Awards Dinner program that was held on October 5, 2001 at the Monarch Hotel in Dublin. Based on a review of the City's existing event schedule, the Council Sub-Committee recommended the first Friday in October as the annual date of the Awards Dinner. The 2001 event was well attended with over 200 in attendance; however, it was noted that several of the City's youth volunteers were unable to attend due to a conflict with Dublin High School's Homecoming Football Game. The Dublin High School Homecoming Game will again conflict with the pre-planned Friday, October 4, 2002 Awards Dinner date. Based upon this information, Staff contacted the Monarch Hotel to confirm alternative dates available in October 2002. The Monarch Hotel has confirmed availability of the Grand Ball Room on Friday, October 11, 2002, should the Council desire to move the annual date of this event. Staff is requesting that the City Council select'a date for the Awards Dinner. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Council select a date for Awards Dinner. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. ~
