HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 019-85 Transportation $ RESOLUTION NO. 19 - 85 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN URGING THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE TO INCREASE TRANSPORTATION REVENUES WHEREAS, there is a recognized transportation funding crisis in the State of California and l~gislative action is urgently needed to meet this problem; and WHEREAS, transportation services are vital to the economic well-being of the State and its constituent cities; and WHEREAS, the financing of transportation services through user charges has traditionally served the State well and should be continued; and WHEREAS, revenues from the State Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax have not kept pace with inflation; and WHEREAS, truck weight fees have not been adjusted correspondingly to meet the increased maintenance caused by heavier vehicles upon streets and highways; and WHEREAS, mass transit systems are also in need of increased funding; and WHEREAS, legislation in the form of Senate Bills 290 and 300, and Senate Constitutional Amendment 12 have been introduced which provides potential remedies for the above conditions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin supports Senate Bill 290 and the reasonable increases of varied revenues, such as gas tax, truck weight fees, and sales tax revenues, which are allocated not only to cities for their transportation programs but also to the State transportation program; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin supports Senate Constitutional Amendment 12 and SB 300 as providing a means for local government to raise additional funds for transportation when so needed; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin urges the California State Legislature to adopt these measures to provide long-term assurance that the public's investment in transportation systems will be protected and improved where necessary; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be provided to the Governor of the State of California, the members of the Senate and Assembly Transportation Committees, other state legislators representing City of Dublin, the League of California Cities, and other interested public and private individuals and groups as may be appropriate.
