Application provided under separate cover. 2) RECOMMENDATION: 1/' Confrrm Mayor's appointment to Yoath Advisory Planning Board to J \ the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative for the term of December 2006 through September 2007 FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: At the October 3, 2006 City Council meeting, the City Council confirmed the Mayor's four (4) appointments to participate in the Youth Advisory Planning Board, which supports the goal of providing input to the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative Committee. The Youth Planning Board is responsible for engaging other youth in the Tri- Valley area in the planning process on adolescent health and wellness services for the Tri-Valley region. The Cities of Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore are allocated a total of five (5) appointments each to participate on the Youth Planning Board. Additional action was requested by City Council at the October 3, 2006 meeting, to have City Staff continue to work with the Tri- Valley Adolescent Health Initiative Committee to secure additional applicants to fill the fifth vacant slot that was allocated to the City of Dublin. The City received an additional application from Gavin Liao who is a Senior (lih grade) at Dublin High School. The Mayor is recommending the appointment of Gavin Liao to the Youth Planning Board. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council confirm the Mayor's appointment to the Youth Planning Board for the Tri- Valley Adolescent Health Initiative for the term of December 2006 through September 2007. RECOMMENDATION: ( /L"W/" Confirm Mayor's appointments to Youth Advisory Planning Board · to the Tri- Valley Adolescent Health Initiative for the term of October 2006 through September 2007 FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: This will mark the second year of the Youth Planning Board, which supports the goal of providing input to the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative Committee. The Cities of Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore have or currently in the process of selecting five (5) Youth Planning Board each from their respective communities. The selection criteria for consideration to the Youth Planning Board is as follows: Applicants must be Dublin residents. Term of office would commence in October 2006 and terminates in September 2007 with an opportunity for re-appointment in September 2007. The Youth Planning Board will be responsible for engaging other youth in the Tri-Valley area in the planning process on adolescent health and wellness services for the Tri- Valley region. The openings were advertised at high schools, and on the City's web site and press releases were sent to the Tri-Valley Herald, Valley Times and CTV. The deadline to submit applicants was Monday, September 18,2006 and at the close date there were a total of four (4) applications. Justin Minor who has served on the inaugural Youth Planning Board in 2005-2006 is interested in extending his participation for another year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPIES TO: Applicants Jesus Verduzco, Planning Consultant for Tri-ValIey Adolescent Health Initiative James Nguyen, Program Manager for the Alameda County School Based Health Center Coalition lof2 3.Y ATTACHMENT 1 1:d./5/ D(' The Mayor recommends the re-appointment and appointment of the following 4 (four) youth for the Youth Planning Board for the Tn-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative: Members Justin Minor Angelena Branch Joe Flores Jamie Smith Grade 9th 11th 11th 11th School Dublin High- Re-Appointment Valley High School Valley High School Valley High School jr5b~ Since each City was allocated a total of five (5) appointments on the Youth Planning Board and the proposed recommendation is to fill only 4 (four) out of the 5 (five) slots available to the City of Dublin, City Staff will continue to work with the Tri- Valley Adolescent Health Initiative Committee to secure additional applicants for the Mayor's consideration and City Council approval in the near future. At a future City Council meeting there will be a presentation made by the Staff from the Tri- Valley Adolescent Health Initiative on the accomplishments to-date of the Youth Planning Board. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council confirm the Mayor's appointments to the Youth Planning Board for the Tri- Valley Adolescent Health Initiative for the term of October 2006 through September 2007. 20f2
