A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN
WHEREAS, in accordance with the Personnel System Rules
the City Council adopted Resolution No. 30-84 Establishing a
Classification Plan; and
WHEREAS, following the adoption of the Classification
Plan the City has embarked on the development of a Recreation
Department; and
WHEREAS, the provision of Leisure Services requires
adequate staffing to oversee programs and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the approval of part-time classifications will
provide adequate Staff.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Resolution 30-84
shall be amended to include the following classifications and
attached job descriptions (Exhibits A,B,C,D,E, and F) and shall
become a part of the Official Classification Plan for the City of
Dublin:
Building Attendant (Exhibit A)
Recreation Intern (Exhibit B)
Recreation Leader I (Exhibit C)
Recreation Leader II (Exhibit D)
Recreation SPecialist (Exhibit E)
Senior Recreation Leader (Exhibit F)
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 29th day of May, 1984.

Exhibit A
CITY OF DUBLIN
BUILDING ATTENDANT
Definition
Performs routine building supervision, cleaning and other related tasks,
to provide building users with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and
functioning community facility.
Examples of Duties
- Has responsibility for building during times assigned.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building and
for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured,
alarm is activated, and all lights except those left on for safety
reasons, are turned off.
- Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times.
- Checks to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are
working properly during the hours of building occupancy and alarm is off
during use.
- Minor building repairs.
- Report~ repairs needed promptly to the Recreation Department.
- Reports immediately to the Recreation Department any damage to the
building, equipment or premises.
- Makes reports of critical situations to appropriate emergency service
and supervisor immediately.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various
activities.
- Is available at all times during assigned hours to assist building users.
- Monitors use of building space and telephone.
- Replaces tables and chairs to storage areas after use.
- Sweeps and cleans floors as required.
- Keeps rest rooms clean, orderly and well stocked with paper towels,
tissues, etc.
Employment Standards
- Completion of Grade 10 or above.
- Reliable, well organized, enjoys people. Ability to exercise good
judgment, courtesy and tact in meeting or talking with the public and
other City employees.
- Building Attendants are encouraged to be certified in Standard Red Cross
First Aid and C.P.R.

RECREATION INTERN
The Position
Under the direction of the Recreation Director, performs non-
professional recreation assignments and general office work
typical of an intern/trainee position.
Examples of Duties
- Prepares written reports on special projects.
- Designs program forms.
- Shares ideas regarding program development.
- Coordinates promotional efforts.
- Performs other duties as required.
Employment Standards
Education and Experience
Upper division student in Recreation Administration, or
closely related field at an accredited college or university.
Academic course work should relate to knowledge of the
principles of Recreation Administration; programming, and
general office prac.tices. Experience is not required but
desirable.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of basic concepts of municipal recreation
programming, and fundamentals of office organization and
procedures. Ability to complete assignments in a timely
fashion; to fulfill specified work hour commitments; to
establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with
those contacted in the course of work; and ability to
communicate in an effective manner.
License
Require valid California Class III driver's license to be
secured prior to employment and maintained current as a
condition of continued City employment.

RECREATION LEADER I
Definition
The Recreation Leader I is an entry level position, under close
supervision, and performs beginning level work in assisting in the leader-
ship of simple recreation activities at playgrounds, centers, parks and/or
sports facilities. Programs have been developed for pre-schoolers 3 to 5
years of age, youth grades K-6, as well as for Junior High and High School
aged students.
Examples of Duties
Assisting in the planning and implementation of recreational activities
appropriate to the age level being serviced.
- Assisting in the issuing and collecting of equipment, games and supplies.
- Assisting in the conducting of activities in the areas of: cooking, arts
and crafts, nature studies, sports/conditioning or organized games, etc.
- Moving and setting up equipment cleaning facilities.
- Observing precautions to safeguard participants and spectators.
- Performing other duties as required.
Employment Standards
Experience ~n'd~Training
- Certification in Standard Red Cross First Aid or a willingness to
become certified within a time period established by the Recreation
Director following employment.
- Experience or specialty interests in one or more of the following
areas: cooking, arts and crafts, nature studies, sports/conditioning
or organized games, is preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact in meeting or
talking with the public and other City employees.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions; to develop skills
necessary to conduct simple recreation activities.

RECREATION LEADER II
Definition
The Recreation Leader II position is the second step in the series of
Recreation Leader classifications, and will be assigned to assisting in
the leadership of activities located at playgrounds, centers, parks
and/or sports facilities. Programs have been developed for pre-schoolers
3 to 5 years of age, youth grades K-6; as well as for Junior High and
High School aged students.
Examples of Duties
- Assisting in the planning, supervision and implementation of recreation
activities appropriate to the age level being serviced.
- Assi~Sting in the issuing and collecting of equipment, games and supplies.
- Moving and setting up equipment, clearing areas and facilities, performing
light custodial work.
- Observing necessary precautions to safeguard participants and spectators.
- Performing other duties as required.
Employment Standards
Experience and Training
- Completion of Grade 9 or above.
- Certification in Standard Red Cross First Aid or a willingness to
become certified within a time period established by Recreation
Director following employment.
- Experience facilitating one or more of the following areas: Cooking,
arts and crafts, nature studies, sports/conditioning or organized
games, is preferred, as well as experience working with youth.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact in meeting or
talking with the public and other City Employees.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions; to develop skills
necessary to conduct recreation activities.

RECREATION SPECIALIST
Definition
Under general supervision performs advanced level work involving
the organization and instruction of various age groups in a
specialized program area. Develops recreation course content
and conducts classes. Exercises independent judgment in the
application of specialized knowledge and skills in the conduct
of the work. May' supervise and train other staff and volunteers
in the area of specialty. Work is reviewed through periodic
inspections, staff conferences, reports and formal evaluations.
Examples of Duties
- Plans and conducts classes in specialty field for groups of
various ages.
- Stimulates interest and appreciation in specialty field.
- Maintains equipment and supplies for classes.
- Operates special equipment in specialty field.
- Furnishes technical guidance, demonstrates methods, conducts
training in area of specialty.
- Maintains control of classes or group.
Employment Standards
Experience and Traininq
- Certification in Standard Red Cross First Aid or A
willingness to become certified.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Technical and professional knowledge of the field and
skills in planning, organizaing and conducting a specialty
class, and of equipment, supplies and ~naterials used in
specialty area.
- Ability to conduct classes in one or more areas within the
specialty field and to work cooperatively with other staff
members and the public.
- Possession of current certificate, credential or license in
the area of specialty field or demonstrated competence and
instructional ability in specialty area.

SENIOR RECREATION LEADER
Definition
Senior Recreation Leader is the third progression in the Recreation
Leader series. This position serves as Recreation Leader and may be
assigned to varying programs within the Recreation Department. Programs
have been developed for pre-schoolers 3 to 5 years of age, and youth
grades K-6; as well as for Junior High and High School aged students.
Examples of Duties
- Working cooperatively with a head teacher.
- Assisting in the planning, supervision and implementation of activities
in the areas of: cooking, arts and crafts, nature studies, sports/
conditioning and/or organized games, appropriate to the age level being
serviced.
- Performing other duties as required.
Employment Standards
Experience and Training
- High School graduate.
- One year experience in a recreation position (paid or volunteer).
- Certification in Standard Red Cross First Aid and C.P.R. or a will-
ingness to become certified within a time period established by
Recreation Director, following employment.
- Experience or specialty interest in one or more of the following areas:
cooking, arts and crafts, nature studies, sports/conditioning or
organized games, as well as experience working with youth.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and tact in meeting or
talking with the public and other City employees.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
