DESCRIPTION: In December 2006, Staff distributed a Request for Proposal to qualified play
equipment representatives to replace the existing play equipment at Alamo Creek Park. On December 22,
2006 proposals were submitted from Kompan and Ross Recreation ranging in price from $78,324 to
$82,992. Staff subsequently reviewed the proposals based on the following criteria:
1) Ability to meet functional requirements in terms of variety and age appropriateness of play
elements, accessibility, safety considerations and ease of on-going maintenance.
2) Value of play apparatus and site improvements proposed.
3) Extent ofmanufacturer's "Green Building" program.
At the January 22, 2007 meeting, the Parks and Community Services Commission recommended the
Option #1 Play Equipment proposed by Ross Recreation (Attachment #2) in the green, tan and brown

color scheme. In addition the Commission preferred the Toddler Rock that was also presented as part of
2-5 year old play area as shown in Attachment #3.
In evaluating prior play equipment installation costs; Staff estimates that the installation portion of the
project will be $53,000, which allows $77,000 for the play equipment. In order to meet the available
budget, minor modifications to the 5-12 year old area would need to be made. They include; the
elimination of the Chimney Climber and Vertical Accent, a standard flat bridge would be substituted for
the Arch Bridge, and the 4-seat See-Saw would be replaced by a 2-seat version.
As proposed in Option #1 the table below describes the amount and variety of components for the two
play areas. Items shown with an asterix are the proposed elements to be eliminated in order to meet
project budget
