DESCRIPTION:
At the City Council meeting of March 6, 2007, Maureen Cornejo, a volunteer with the American Cancer
Society (ACS) made a request to the City Council for the City to offer visual support for ASC's "Paint the
Town Purple" event on Saturday, April 28t\ 2007 by placing Purple Ribbons on the street trees and street
poles throughout the City of Dublin. The City, on an annual basis, places Red Ribbons throughout the
City through the use of volunteers (4-H and Dublin High Leadership Club) to recognize Red Ribbon
Week. Volunteers also remove the Red Ribbons once Red Ribbon Week is complete.
If the City Council concurs with this request for the placement of Purple Ribbons, ACS volunteers would
organize the placement and removal of the ribbons along Village Parkway, Dublin Boulevard and San
Ramon Road the week prior to the event (April 215t through April 2ih). Ribbons will only be placed on
City trees and poles along the street sidewalks and not be placed on the street median trees or control
devises (i.e. stop signs, directional signs and cross walk signs). In addition, a banner announcing the
event will be placed at ACS's office at 7000 Village Parkway with the proper banner permit obtained
from the Planning Division. Purple lawn signs may also be placed in volunteer's front yards. Ribbons
and yard signs will be removed by May 4, 2007.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council give direction to Staff on the placement of Purple Ribbons on City
street trees and poles.

RELAY
FOR LIFE
.
.
Dear Sir or Madam:
Your American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, has a wonderful opportunity for the city of Dublin this year! At the
end of April, beginning of May, nationwide there will be 5,000 cities celebrating "Paint Our Town Purple Day". This is a
one-day event. Relay For Life of Dublin would like to participate in this opportunity of celebrating survivorship by
decorating the city if Dublin with purple balloons, ribbons and streamers on Saturday, April 28th. The American
Cancer Society Relay For Life of Dublin will be responsible for all the set-up and clean-up.
The Relay For Life of Dublin has been in the community for over 10 years and has raised a significant amount of
money to support cancer education, awareness and programs. The support from Dublin residents for Relay For Life
has been overwhelming generous. We would like another opportunity to spread the word about the American Cancer
Society through "Paint Our Town Purple Day".
Relay For Life will help us achieve our mission of eliminating cancer, saving lives from cancer and diminishing the
suffering from cancer. Relay For Life is about a community taking up the fight against cancer by celebrating the
hopeful side of survivorship and focusing our efforts on education, early detection and finding a cure!
On behalf of the American Cancer Society, we thank you in advance for your continued support. Please feel free to
call us if you have any questions or need additional information.
Sincerely,
Kristen Hunter
