DESCRIPTION: One of the City Council's goals (Goal II-E-4) for Fiscal Year 2006-07 is to "Work
with Dublin Chamber of Commerce to create a program to recognize Dublin businesses through events in
local papers, City Newsletters, web site, etc." The City Council appropriated $10,000 in the Fiscal Year
2006-07 budget to support the Business Recognition Program.
The first Business Recognition event was the City's sponsorship (in the amount of $7,000) ofthe East Bay
Business Times' Growth Cities Dublin event. The January 31, 2007 Growth Cities Dublin event was
sold out (nearly 300 attendees) and was positively received by the business and development community.
In addition, Mayor Lockhart recognized the role of business in our community during the State of the City
address at a Chamber of Commerce event in January 2007. The Mayor provided every person in
attendance with a small token of appreciation thanking them for their commitment to our community.
To supplement those two events, Staff would propose that additional City's Business Recognition
Program activities include the following:
o Business Anniversary Program:
Staff would propose that the City recognize local Dublin-based businesses that have achieved
significant milestone anniversaries in our community. Staff would identify those companies that
have reached the following milestones (10 years, 20 years, and 30 years), and the recognition is as
follows:

10 year Anniversary:
A 10-year business would receive a Certificate of Recognition from
the Mayor.
20 year Anniversary:
A 20-year business would receive a glass globe (or similar
memento) at a City Council meeting.
30 year Anniversary:
A 30-year business would receive a plaque at a City Council
meeting.
During the City of Dublin's 25th anniversary celebration this year, Staff would propose to recognize those
60+ businesses that have been in Dublin since the City's incorporation in 1982.
Staff would propose that Business Anniversary Program be held twice each year (May and November)
beginning in Fiscal Year 2007-08. Staff would, however, make arrangement to recognize the 25 year
anniversary businesses in the near future.
o Recognize the top 25 sales tax producers. Staff would propose that the City recognize each of
the top 25 sales tax producers with a Mayor's Certificate. The certificates, once completed, would
be mailed to the business or hand-delivered by the Mayor as part of a business visitation.
o Create a quarterly Business Newsletter for the City's website. Staff would write the newsletter
twice each year and use it to highlight selected businesses (such as top sales tax generators, top
employers, and new businesses moving to Dublin) and could also touch on the new development
projects in our community.
If the program is approved, Staff will include a line item request in the Fiscal Year 2007-08 budget to
cover the costs ofthe program (estimated at approximately $3,000 per year).
RECOMMENDATION: It is Staff's recommendation that the City Council approve the Business
Recognition Program as outlined.
