DESCRIPTION: The City of Dublin, along with the sixteen other cities and
agencies in the Alameda County Urban Runoff Clean Water Program, has been selected
by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as the second-place winner in
the National storm Water Control Excellence Awards. The EPA stated that the
selection was the result of an extensive national competition and was based on the
Program's "demonstrated innovative and cost-effective achievements for improving
storm water quality." The EPA also stated that the award "recognizes the
exceptional storm water control efforts by your community and the dedication of your
organization. .,
....
The purpose of the Program is to eliminate pollutant discharges into the storm drain
system which drains directly into San Francisco Bay. Program activities have
included catch basin stenciling, business interface, school education projects,
storm drain cleaning, street sweeping, and public outreach. Storm drain protection
programs were mandated by the Clean Water Act of 1987.
The award was presented to the Alameda County Urban Runoff Clean Water Program at
the Water Environment Federation Meetings in Chicago last month. On November 9,
1994, Mayor Pete Snyder accepted the City of Dublin's award at a local ceremony for
the cities in Alameda County.
