The Sidewalk Safety Repair is funded through the General Fund (001). Curb ramps are
funded through a Community Development Block Grant (209).
In addition, as a cost savings measure, the contractor also completed additional sidewalk
improvements on Amador Valley Boulevard underneath 1-680 freeway. Total cost of these
improvements is $9,407 and is being funded through CIP #94255, "Sidewalk
Reconstruction Underneath the 1-680 on Dublin Boulevard and Amador Valley Boulevard"
with General Fund monies. These new sidewalks underneath 1-680 will later be stained to
match the underpass artwork as it is being installed.
DESCRIPTION: On February 19, 2002, the City Council awarded the 2000-2001
Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair Program and Curb Ramp Installations, Contract No. 01-17, to AJW
Construction.
The Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair Program repaired sidewalk locations that are offset 3/4" or more and
may pose a tripping hazard. This contract specified the removal and replacement of existing sidewalk,
curb and gutter. This year's project included the construction of 11 curb ramps at various street comers.
A portion of the Capital Project to replace sidewalk under 1-680 as part of the artwork project in these
same locations was added to the Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair project. Initially, it was proposed to
remove all of the sidewalk under 1-680 on Dublin Boulevard and Amador Valley Boulevard and replace
it with decorative paving. However, Caltrans repaired most of the sidewalk with the 1-580/1-680 Flyover
project, and it was decided to fill in the remainder of the open areas along the existing sidewalks with
standard sidewalk, and then stain the concrete at a later date to match the simulated sidewalk included in
the artwork murals.
Staffhas reviewed the work on the project and has determined that the work is complete.
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the budget change, accept the improvements under
Contract No. 01-17 and authorize the release of retention after 35 days if there are no subcontractor
claims.
