RECOMMENDATION: uthorize Staff to advertise Contract 4-9 for bidding FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Amount budgeted for construction - $105,500 Engineer's estimate - $122,000 DESCRIPTION: As part of the 1984-85 budget the City Council allocated $107,500 for installation of landscaping and sidewalk improvements on the west side of Village Parkway, between Amador Valley Boulevard and Kimball Avenue, ~ adjacent to the new soundwall which is presently being installed. Of the total budgeted, $105,500 was for the construction of improvements and $2,500 was for inspection. Since the adoption of the budget, the City Engineer has prepared a more detailed estimate for the cost of improvements which is $122,000, as part of the preparation of plans and specifications. The increased costs are attributable to sunken and damaged sidewalk which needs to be replaced (approximate cost $5,000); and DSRSD and Zone 7 water connection charges (approximate cost $11,000), which had been greatly underestimated. A total of $13,689 had been expended during Fiscal Year 1983-84 for engineering, bringing the total estimated project cost to $137,689. The improvements consist of concrete sidewalk, between the existing curb and sidewalk, with trees spaced at 34 feet, and quarry waste aggregate placed behind the sidewalk with vines and shrubs being planted against the new soundwall. The landscaping will also be irrigated automatically. Due to the holidays, it is anticipated that the bid opening will be scheduled for the end of January.
