Budget to install the lettering on the wall
DESCRIPTION: The City Council has a high priority objective to improve
identification of the Senior Center from Amador Valley Boulevard. Staff has worked with a local sign
company to develop a conceptual design to accomplish this objective.
Back~round
The existing Senior Center monument sign is not visible from Amador Valley Boulevard (A VB). It is
located by the entrance to the Senior Center parking in the Dublin Place Shopping Center. This is about
30 yards south of the intersection of A VB and Donohue Drive. New customers have commented that
when passing by on A VB there is nothing identifying the facility as a Senior Center. In response Staff
installed directional signs in the street median, and on the stoplight pole at eastbound A VB and Starward
Drive. However, easy identification of the facility continues to be an issue.
ProDosed Proiect
The Senior Center has a curved patio wall facing A VB. This wall provides wind and sound protection for
the back patio and fountain area. Staff proposes installing letters spelling "DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER"
on the wall facing A VB. Attachment I is a photo rendering of how the lettering would appear. The font
would match the lettering on the existing monument sign at the parking lot entrance. The lettering would
be I2-inches high and I-inch deep to give it a raised appearance.

The letters would be made of a special plastic that looks like dark anodized brass. Staff recommends
against using real brass letters as they would be a target for theft due to the value of the metal. The letters
will be anchored into the concrete wall.
The lettering will look classy and maintain the architectural integrity of the building. The location is
visible from almost all directions on A VB, Starward and Donohue Drives. Additionally there is already
existing "up-lighting" on the wall at night, so no additional electric work would be necessary for the
project.
Recommendation from Senior Center Advisory Committee
Staff presented the proposed project to the Senior Center Advisory Committee in April. The Committee
concurred with the Staff recommendation to install lettering on the wall, and appointed a sub-committee
to review the conceptual layout (Attachment I). The sub-committee met with Staff and was favorable of
the conceptual layout.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council receive the report and direct
Staff to proceed with installation of lettering on the patio wall or provide alternate direction.
