FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Acceptance of this donation will increase funding available for drug prevention and education programs. DESCRIPTION: A donation of $125 was made by Kenneth Linvill, a private citizen, who was very pleased with the work of Dublin Police Services, specifically, Officer Timothy Philipps. Mr. Linvill said that Officer Philipps was willing to go beyond what he called the normal routines of police work to assist him in solving a dispute. Mr. Linvill wanted to show his sincere appreciation for Officer Philipps' dedication by making a $125 donation to the Dublin Police Services Drug Prevention and Education Program. Dublin Police Services Crime Prevention Unit provides drug education programs for all of the Dublin schools, both public and private. Should the City Council accept the donation, the money would be used to purchase a new drug education video. Per Government Code Section 37354, it is recommended that all gifts and contributions be formally accepted by the City Council. Therefore it is the recommendation of Staffthat the City Council accept the donation, approve the budget adjustment, direct staffto formally acknowledge the donor, and direct Police Services staff to purchase the education video. The News Media and people are olden too busy, it's easier to point fingers and blame others, than to take the time to show the positive side of what police do for the community,. For people it's not news worthv. I want to take this time to show my appreciation for Officer Timothy Philipps, # 1322 assistance, and describe my problem that he help correct. I stopped by Dublin City Hall while in the Bay area on business, and talked with Officer Philipps about my problem, He took it upon himself, to help correct a problem I had with Dublin Clock Shop. I explained before moving from Pleasanton, I bought 1 new clock, and leR 3 antique clocks to have appraised with Dublin Clock Shop. I picked up my clocks when I moved, and was promised by Ray Fikeau that the appraisals would be mailed. After numerous calls and promises, neither the appraisals or refund were sent. This is when I stopped bv Dublin Ci~ Hall and talked with Officer Philipps, he said he would help and look into the problem. Tc make a long stoD' short, after numerous visits by Officer Philipps, he was able to finally solve and clear up my problem. I got my money returned, more than 6 months late and the problem was solved, only with his help Without his assistance, I feet I would have had to go ro small claims court, or possibly not have got-ten my money returned. It was his wiliness to go bevond what I would call normal eye,day routines, especially to assist a person no longer in the Bay area. I believe that if promises are made, and ifvou say you are going to do something, than live up to vour word and do what vou say you were going to do In mv case, either perform the appraisal or return the money. With me, it's the principle of treating people fairlv. It was not right for Dublin Clock Shop to keep my money, and not perform the appraisal. Because of Officer Philipps assistance, my $125.00 was finally returned. I would like to donate this money in Officers Timothy Philipps name, and as vou suggested, to the Drug Prevention and Education Program. To bad Television shows like Americas' Most Wanted do not include a segment for the good side of people and Police work. If they did, then I xvould nominate Officer Timothy Philipps for that segment and I am confident, he would be the star of that segrnenr. Officer Timothy Philipps, trulv is a credit to the Dublin Police Department and would be a tremendous asset to anv Police Deparunenr. I just hope this letter shows, my sincere appreciation for Officer Timothy Philipps assistance, and hope the people of Dublin and fellow Officers do likewise.
