Designation of Voting Delegate for the 2009 National League of
Cities Annual Conference

Review and discuss a Councilmember appointment to serve as
voting delegate to vote on the City's behalf at the National League of
Cities annual conference, and appoint an additional City
Councilmember to serve as an alternate should the voting delegate
be unable to attend due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None.
DESCRIPTION: The National League of Cities (NLC) annual conference is
scheduled to be held November 10-14, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas. The NLC is an organization through
which city officials work together on a national level to further their common interest and the interests of
their citizens. During the conference, the annual business meeting is held, at which each member city is
afforded the opportunity to shape the NLC's federal advocacy agenda for the upcoming year by casting a
vote on preferred policy recommendations. In order fora member city to vote at the meeting, each city
must have designated a voting delegate. In order for the City of Dublin to participate in this meeting, the
City Council will need to appoint a voting delegate to vote on the City's behalf at the conference. Staff
recommends that the City Council discuss and appoint one of its members to serve as the City's voting
delegate to the conference. In addition, Staff recommends that an alternate be considered and appointed
should the voting delegate be unable to attend due to unforeseen future scheduling conflicts.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council review and discuss a
Councilmember appointment to serve as voting delegate to vote on the City's behalf at the National
League of Cities annual conference, and appoint an additional City Councilmember to serve as an
alternate should the voting delegate be unable to attend due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.
