DESCRIPTION: At its meeting of April 24, 1995, the City Council authorized Staff to
advertise for bids for Contract 95-03, Sidewalk Safety (Grinding).
This contract is supplemental to the City's annual sidewalk remove and replace program,
which replaces offset sidewalk which may present a tripping hazard. The grinding program will
grind offsets which are not cause by tree roots or excessive ground movement at substantially
lower costs, thereby increasing the number of locations which can be corrected.
The City received a total of five bids for this project. The Iow bidder was Central Coast
Surface Grinding with a bid of $22,100. The Engineer's Estimate for the work was $30,000
based on a two-year contract of $15,000 per year.
Staff has reviewed the Iow bidder's proposal and checked with references and recommends
that the City Council award the bid to the Iow bidder.

Contract No. 95-03
Dear Mr. Thompson:
Regarding the above mentioned proposal, I misinterpreted the unit price on grinding
the project to be by the lineal foot. Our bid was 11.90 per lineal foot, it should
of read 47.60 per unit, and a total price of $61,800.
Please except my apology for the error on my part. If you have any further
questions, please feel free to call me at (510) 757-3660.
Sincerely,
