Dublin Heritage Center Website

Receive presentation on the new Dublin Heritage Center Website
$7,600 was budgeted in FY 2008-2009 for the Website Design
One of the Fiscal Year 2008-2009 high priority objectives adopted
by the City Council for the Heritage & Cultural Arts Division was to: Create a dedicated "website "for
the Dublin Heritage Center.
Over the past several months, Staff has been working with Matchpoint Graphics to create a layout and
features for a dedicated website that will promote and inform the public about programs, events and other
activities at the Dublin Heritage Center. The Dublin Heritage Center Website is now up and running and
can be accessed by linking directly to www.dublinherita e.org or by connecting with the City Website
www.ci.dublin.ca.us and going to the Heritage Center page under the Recreation category.
The Website has a number of pages of interest, as follows:
1. Homena~e: The homepage welcomes visitors, offers a quick glimpse of news and events, and
allows them to easily navigate the other pages of the website.
2. Visitor Information: This tab gives browsers a peek inside the Heritage Center. The basic "who,
what, when and where" are all answered on this page along with directions, hours, fees and what
to expect from the site.
3. Programs, News and Events: This changeable page can be constantly updated and provides
timely and detailed information about upcoming news and events at the Heritage Center.

4. Traditional Music Jams: This page provides detailed information about the three separate music
jams offered at the Heritage Center. Visitors can click on the links and access the Yahoo page for
each group. This page welcomes newcomers and the curious and lets them know that the jams are
open to everyone.
5. Teachers and Students: This page is specifically designed to help teachers and students. School
teachers will find all the information needed to book a tour of the museum as well as curriculum
and thematic information. Both students and teachers can access archival photographs and
historical information. The goal is to provide assistance with reports, projects and browsing.
Sometime soon, browsers will also be able to track Dublin's Family Tree on this page.
6. Interactive Historian: This is a very lively, interactive page where people can write in questions
or provide information via Dublin's City Historian. This page provides open access and
encourages dialogue. It is hoped that this page will reveal new information, opportunities for
learning and expand understanding of Dublin's history.
7. Archival Photographs: This is the portal to Calisphere where one can find a collection of over
two hundred of Dublin's most important archival photographs. Visitors can access low resolution
thumbnails and medium resolution photographs. Large files of the photographs are stored within
the California archives. (Calisphere is the University of California's free public gateway to a
world of primary sources containing more than 150,000 digitized items including photographs,
documents, newspaper pages, political cartoons, works of art, diaries, transcribed oral histories,
advertising, and other unique cultural artifacts that reveal the diverse history and culture of
California and its role in national and world history.)
8. Dublin Family Tree: This page is currently under construction while a volunteer is mapping out
the family trees of Dublin's founding and prominent families. When complete, visual Portable
Document Formats (PDFs) of the family trees will be available by clicking on the family name.
(This is linked to the Teachers and Students page as well to help them with research and school
projects.)
9. Press Kit: This page provides basic facts and press releases so that the media can review up-
coming activities & programs and receive content for electronic and printed media.
10. Under construction: A virtual tour is also scheduled to be added to the website within the next
four months.
The website helps the Heritage Center to fulfill its mission by providing access to a number of audiences
simultaneously. All of these pages are designed to allow staff to serve a broader base of the community
and region, providing access to the Heritage Center and its collections and programs.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council receive the presentation on
the new Dublin Heritage Center website.
