2O02
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
Dave Burton is my nominee for Citizen of the
Year. Dave has been making a significant
contribution to the quality of life in Dublin
for many years. As a former Vice Mayor of
our community Dave has given countless
hours of work and support to the residents of
Dublin.
This has been a particularly special year for
Dave. By December of 2002 he will see a bell
tower sitting atop the Murray School, circa
1850. This has been a long'standing dream of
Dave's as well as many other residents and
history buffs in the area. Dave made a
decision last year that he wanted to see the
bell tower in place before the end of his life in
Dublin or anywhere else. He worked closely
with Dublin Historical Preservation
Association and the Dublin Rotary Club to
make this dream come true for so many.
Dave was truly the catalyst that brought the
City of Dublin, the D.H.P.A., and the Rotary
Club of Dublin together to complete this
project. Dave.is responsible for fundraising
from the public and private sectors to provide
the city with $30,000.00 towards this project.
Dave Burton is a classic example of the city
motto. "Proud of our Past, Preparing for our
Future."
Thanks to the efforts of Dave, current and
future residents of our community will come
to know the simplistic beauty of recreating
and preserving a wonderful piece of Dublin
history in the old Murray School. Someday
soon the school bell will ring for David
Burton.

Angela Fontes
Volunteer of the Year 2002 Application
As President of the Murray Parent Faculty Club (PFC), it is my pleasure to nominate Angela
Fontes as Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her many years of service to our
community. Angela is a tireless and dependable volunteer, and an inspiration to those who
have had the pleasure of working with her on various activities. Her volunteer efforts have
touched many people, and particularly children, in Dublin.
In the past four years, she has served in the capacity of treasurer for the Murray Elementary
Parent Faculty Club. In addition to this huge year-round commitment of handling all aspects
of the financial obligations of the group, she also helped in many other ways. When it was
brought to light that Murray was in desperate need of a computer lab, so that the students of
Hurray would not become left behind in this computer age, she stepped to the forefront by
helping to organize fundraising and seeking donations to provide the needed equipment.
She then worked tirelessly with the district staff to ensure that the lab complied with
Technology standards. In September of the 2001 school year, Murray was able to offer a
computer class where every student had the opportunity to learn the various aspects of
technology. Without the time and commitment from Angela our children might still be
waiting.
Knowing that the computer lab now had a part-time teacher and was operational, She
moved her focus to coordinating Halloween Fun Night. This annual event was in jeopardy of
being lost as a Murray Tradition. For years Murray PFC has held this event as a safe
alterative to trick-or-treating. Through her tireless work ethic she inspired many of us to
pitch in and keep this community event alive. It worked!! Last year was our biggest turn out
ever! We were also able to help Neilsen Elementary school by buying extra stock left over
from their Fall Carnival. In this way of reaching out both events won't be lost in the future.
By these two small accounts, ! think you can see her commitment to providing the children in
Dublin things that will benefit them for a lifetime. A complete list of all the other activities
she has participated in over the years are shown below:
Murray PFC
Handling 5th grade Outdoor Ed Accounts
Helping with various beautification projects
Multi-Purpose Room
Updating Staff Bathrooms
School Marquee
Boy Scouts
Den Leader (2 years)
Coordination of Popcorn Sales
(3 years)
Troop Leader of Girl Scout Troop 1065 (5 years)
Registrar of the San Francisco Girl Scout Council (2 years)
Duties included registering all Girl Scouts in Livermore/Amador Valley
Association (LAVA)
Little League
Served as Team Mom (various years)
In ::[999 recognized as Snack Bar Parent of the Year
[f you would like more detailed accounts of the commitment involved please feel free to call
me.
As one last accounting, I would like to share with you that Angela attended the Dublin
Partners in Education Art Auction last May. Murray Elementary 4th graders entered a quilt
that they made together in class. It was Angela's goal that this piece would hang in the
Multi-Purpose room. Out of the goodness of her heart (and pocket book) she acquired the
quilt and presented it to the school as a parting gift. Her forethought not only helped DPIE
with their program, but it thought those fourth graders that working together can have
lasting emotional and tangible benefits. The quilt will be displayed for many years to come.
Thank you,
Andrea Pryor
