HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 003-83 DeafAwareMonth RESOLUTION NO. 3 - 83 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY, 1983 AS DEAF AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, deaf citizens of the Bay Area, constituting a significant portion of the 14 million hearing impaired persons in the United States, continue to wage a silent struggle to overcome the barriers inherent in this disability, which is invisible to the general public; and WHEREAS, these same industrious and creative deaf citizens have long contributed to our community and to our nation as a whole; and WHEREAS, there is a need to alert and educate the general public to the unique problems of deafness; and WHEREAS, the deaf are eager to share with the general public their pride of identity and accomplishment; and WHEREAS, concerned individuals and recognized organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area have joined together in an effort to focus public attention on the implications of deafness. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Dublin City Council hereby proclaims the Month of May, 1983, as Deaf Awareness Month. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens of Dublin be encouraged to recognize and acknowledge their brotherhood with their fellow citizens who are deaf. 1983.
