DESCRIPTION:
At a recent Council Meeting, Council Member Lockhart commented that she had received comments
from several residents who felt that the Fall special clean-up date was not late enough in the year, and that
it should be moved to late October after the leaves had fallen. Staff was asked to investigate the possibility
of changing the Fall Clean-up date to October. The last scheduled special cleanup for this year is in
September.
In response to this request, Staff spoke with Livermore Dublin Disposal (LDD) about the possibility of
moving the Fall cleanup, date. LDD stated that this year's dates could not be changed because the 2000
schedule had already been established in Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon. LDD coordinates all of the
clean-up dates between the three cities and almost every week of the year has been assigned a special
clean-up date in one of the cities (Attachment 1). Special clean-up dates cannot overlap because LDD
does not have the personnel to perform the clean-ups in two cities at the same time.
In addition, all of the clean-up notices have been printed and the residents of all three cities have been
notified of the dates. In order for Dublin to change its clean-up date to October, the City would need to
switch dates with Livermore or San Ramon, and both cities would need to reprint the notices and notify
the residents of the change. Staff feels that a date change would not be practical for this year.
LDD indicated that they would be happy to discuss the possibility of moving the last cleanup date for
2001 from September to October. LDD usually notifies the City in SePtember of the proposed cleanup
dates for the following year, and gives the City an opportunity to comment on the dates. At that time,
Staff will draft an Agenda Statement presenting the different cleanup date options to the Council.
