HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.6 Accpt Gift Bike to Work~~ ~~ ~- ~ ~~ ~~// ~~ CITY CLERK File # ^ /^0^a -~^~ AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: July 21, 2009 SUBJECT: Acceptance of Gifts to City from Bike to Work Day Contributing Sponsors Report Prepared by: Erin Lamberger, Administrative Analyst ATTACHMENTS: RECOMMENDATION: FINANCIAL STATE T: None Recognize the sponsors and formally accept the contributions Only in-kind support was received DESCRIPTION: The 2009 Bike to Work Day and the sponsored Energizer Station were held on Thursday, May 14, at the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station underpass. The Energizer Station, co-hosted by the Cities of Dublin and Pleasanton, Alameda County Public Works, Dublin Cyclery, Hacienda Business Park, and BART saw over 400 cyclists pass through, a 30% increase over last year. Alameda County also saw a 45% increase in the number of cyclists reported. In the Bay Area, the final tally reflected over 200,000 cyclists biking to work, a 36% increase over the previous year's event. At the Dublin Energizer Station, bicyclists received refreshments, T-shirts, and tote bags containing giveaways from sponsors. A list of local sponsors is below. Staff would also like to offer recognition to Dublin Cyclery, a collaborating organizer of the Dublin Energizer Station who helped table the event. SPONSOR IN-KIND CONTRIBUTION Panera Bread Food and Beverages Livermore Cyclery Reusable Water Bottles Performance Bicycle Bicycling accessories In recognition of the contributions, the sponsors will be presented with certificates of appreciation for supporting Bike to Work Day. Per Government Code Section, 37354, it is recommended that all gifts and contributions be formally accepted by the City Council.
