SUBJECT: Naming of Neighborhood Park in Dublin Ranch Area G

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: At the October 15, 2002 meeting, the City Council approved a
Consultant Services for Landscape Architecture for Dublin Ranch Area G Neighborhood Park with
Royston, Hanamoto, Alley and Abey. The consultants have met with Staff to begin development of
design alternatives for the park and the first community meeting is scheduled for November 18, 2002.
To date, the park is referred to as Dublin Ranch Area G Neighborhood Park as the City Council has not
taken official action to name the park. In the past, the City Council has asked the Parks and Community
Services Commission to select up to three names for a new park for consideration by the Council. The
guidelines that the Commission has considered when determining a park names include:
1. Geographic Location
a. Major Street
b. Water Bodies
c. Hilts/Ridgelines
d. Subdivision Names
2. Landscaping
a. Indigenous Trees or Plantings
b. Topography
3. Historic Significance
4. Name of People - Living or Deceased
5. Traditionally Known As...
Staff would like to confirm with the City Council that this process should be followed for Dublin Ranch
Area G Neighborhood Park. If not, Staff requests that the City Council provide direction on the process
for naming of the park.
