EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will formally recognize the contributions made by various individuals and
organizations, which helped make the 2010 Dublin Pride Week activities into a successful
community event. The City Council will also recognize the Dublin Pride Week Poster Contest
winners.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Sufficient funds were included in the Fiscal Year 2009-2010 Budget. Other funds and in-kind
donations were provided by the following organizations: Amador Valley Industries, citilinks,
Dublin Lion's Club, Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club, Lowe's, Armstrong Garden Center,
Home Depot, Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD), East Bay Regional Park District,
Pete's Coffee, Mimi's Cafe, and Zone 7.

DESCRIPTION:
Dublin Pride Week was celebrated from Saturday, April 24 to Sunday May 2, 2010. A number of
activities and projects were conducted and are summarized below.
Dublin Pride Week Poster Contest
All students from both public and private schools in the City of Dublin were invited to participate
in this year's Dublin Pride Poster Contest. The students were asked to create posters that
reflected this year's theme "Planet Dub~in". As in previous years, the Dublin/San Ramon
Women's Club volunteered to coordinate the poster contest, which included distributing the
materials, judging the posters, and distributing the certificates.
Each of the Poster Contest participants will be receiving Certificates of Appreciation. The City
awards first and second prizes to individuals from each of the following grade categories:
Kindergarten-1St grade, 2"d grade-3~d grade, 4th grade-5th grade, 6th grade-8th grade, and gtn
grade-12th grade, as well as an overall grand prize winner. The grand prize winner receives a
$100 Target gift card, the first prize winners receive a$25 Target gift card, and second prize
winners receive a$15 Target gift card. The grand prize, first prize, and second prize winners
also have their posters displayed at the Civic Center and will be presented with Certificates of
Merit. Additionally, a Classroom Award is given in the amount of $200 to the teacher of the
Grand Prize Winner to be used in his or her classroom.

Over 650 community volunteers donated significant time and energy to community clean up and
beautification projects on Volunteer Day, Saturday, April 24, 2010. Volunteers met at 8:00 a.m.
at Shannon Park to receive instructions and supplies for the various projects throughout the
community. Mayor Sbranti began the event with a welcoming address and word of thanks to the
volunteers. Volunteers were given Dublin Pride Week stainless steel water bottles and were
provided snacks, coffee, hot coco, juice and water including muffins donated by Amador Valley
Industries and Mimi's Cafe and coffee donated by Peets. At the completion of the projects, all
volunteers were invited to a free barbecue provided by the Dublin Lion's Club.
Volunteer Day consisted of the following projects:
Senior Projects: There were approximately 250 volunteers that made up the 32 separate Senior
Project Teams. The teams were able to assist 38 senior homes with a variety of activities that
ranged from cleaning windows to minor home repair. These projects were coordinated by the
Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley, which assists the City in finding Dublin seniors who
are in need of some assistance.
Frederickson Elementary School: Approximately 30 volunteers were sent to Frederickson
Elementary to do weeding and trimming, as well as to drop and spread rock on muddy areas.
Dougherty Elementary School: Approximately 25 volunteers were sent to Dougherty Elementary
to help fix the school garden fence, put up lattice, and do weeding and trimming.
Dublin Elementary School: Approximately 15 volunteers were sent to Dublin Elementary to do
garden cleanup, vegetable garden setup, weeding and trimming.
Dublin High School: Approximately 20 volunteers were sent to Dublin Nigh to help with weeding
and trimming.
Fallon Middle School: The Fallon School's California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) Club
worked on improving the Fallon Middle School landscaping by cleaning out flower beds, pulling
weeds and trimming. The CJSF group totaled more than 80 individuals.
John Green Elementary School: Approximately 35 volunteers were sent to John Green
Elementary to help with weeding and trimming.

Murray Elementary School: Approximately 30 volunteers were sent to Murray Elementary to
paint, spread rock, wash windows, do weeding, trimming and pick up trash.
Wells Middle School: Approximately 45 volunteers were sent to Wells Middle School to help
with planting ivy, painting, planting flowers, weeding and trimming.
Non-Profit Assistance Projects: Approximately 40 volunteers were sent to the Valley Pregnancy
Center and Easter Seals Kaleidoscope School. At Valley Pregnancy Center, volunteers helped
with cleaning, dusting, washing windows and blinds, vacuuming, moving items to the storage
and with light gardening. At the Easter Seals Kaleidoscope School, volunteers helped with
blacktop painting, window and floor washing, weeding, sweeping and trimming.
City Park Projects: Approximately 125 volunteers assisted with beautification and clean-up
projects at various park locations within the City. For example, many volunteers assisted in
wood chip spreading at Ironhorse Trail (near BART), at Dolan Park, at Fallon Sports Park and
at Emerald Glen. Another group of volunteers helped with painting the fountain near the play
area at Shannon Park. Volunteers also thinned ivy, removed wood, cleaned up trash, pulled
weeds and spread wood chips at the Heritage Center and Historic Park.
City Creek Cleanups: Approximately 20 volunteers were sent to pick up litter at three of the
City's creeks. South San Ramon Creek, Alamo Creek South and Alamo Creek North were host
to these volunteers.
Environmental Outreach: Within each bucket of supplies for senior assistance projects,
volunteers were given compact fluorescent light bulbs and energy efficiency handouts to give to
each senior.
Storm Drain Medallions: Over a dozen volunteers were engaged in pasting medallions to the
City's storm drains, which warn against dumping material into the storm drain system.
Food Drive: This year, Dublin Pride Week included a Food Drive organized by City Staff and
Pride Week Committee members. Collection bins were set up at the two Safeway grocery
stores in Dublin to collect non-perishable food items during Dublin Pride Week. Collection bins
were also set up at Volunteer Day. The City was able to collect approximately 20 full boxes or
116 cubic feet of food. All food collected was donated to the Dublin Children's Emergency
Council.
In addition, a special thanks goes out to the Cities of Livermore and Pleasanton for loaning the
City additional yard maintenance tools. Due to the significant increase in volunteers this year,
the City alone did not have enough tools for everyone to use to keep everyone busy. The other
Tri-Valley cities stepped in and provided the needed tools, which was integral to completing the
number of projects planned in a timely manner.
Martin Canyon Creek Nature Walk
Following the Volunteer Day Activities on April 24th, naturalist and park ranger Katie Colbert
lead a nature walk along the Martin Canyon Creek Trail exploring the creek's diverse flora and
fauna. Approximately 15 people participated in the walk this year.

Water-wise Workshop
Residents were invited to the Dublin Library on Saturday, April 24th for an informational
workshop on drought tolerant gardening. This project was organized and sponsored by DSRSD
and Zone 7 Water Agency. Approximately forty-five (45) residents attended the workshop.
Household Hazardous Waste Event
The City sponsored another successful household hazardous waste drop off event, which was
managed by Amador Valley Industries and held at the MicroDental parking lot on Arnold Drive
on Sunday, May 2nd. The City's annual household hazardous waste event ensures that
materials such as paint, used oil, batteries, pesticides and other harmful chemicals are
disposed of properly. In totaf, there was 23,233 pounds of waste collected. Also, 500 bags of
compost were given away.
2010 Dublin Pride Week Committee
At the forefront of this year's activities was the Dublin Pride Week Committee. The Committee
comes together each year to plan and organize each Pride Week activity. This year, the
Committee was made up of various community members and organizational representatives.
