Thompson, Public ~orks Director EXHIBITS ATTACHED: None RECOMMENDATION: ;q~ ~ Accept improvements under Contract No. 02-05 and authorize the release of retention after 35 days if there are no subcontractor claims FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Items of Work Salaries/Miscellaneous: Slurry Seal Streets (including striping): Pavement Repair of Slurry Streets: TOTAL: FY 2001-2002 Estimated Budget Actual $ 10,500 $ 5,931 $ 80,000 $ 67,024 $ 30.000* $ 3,150' $120,500 $ 76,105 * Note: Pavement repair work of slurry seal streets was included with the 2001- 2002 Annual Overlay Project as a cost savings measure. The $30,000 budget was a carryover estimate from previous years. This year, very little pavement repair was needed for the slurry streets. This project is funded through the Gas Tax (206) for improvements and General Fund (001) for salaries and miscellaneous. DESCRIPTION: On May 21, 2002, the City Council awarded Contract No. 02-05, 2001-2002 Annual Slurry Seal Program, to Valley Slurry Seal Company. Slurry seal is a preventive maintenance technique used to prolong the life of.asphalt surfacing. Slurry consists of a sand/oil mixture which seals cracks and provides a new uniform wearing surface. City streets are slurried approximately every five to seven years, depending upon the level of wear. The following streets were slurry sealed as part of this project: Dublin Boulevard (westbound lanes between Dougherty Road and Scarlett Drive) Penn Drive York Drive Wildwood Road Crossridge Road Shady Creek Circle Lancaster Road Staff has reviewed the work and recommends that the City Council accept improvements under Contract No. 02-05 and authorize the release of retention after 35 days if there are no subcontractor claims~ Page2 c~' e¢'-
