DESCRIPTION: On Saturday, May 17, 2008, the Dublin Senior Center hosted the
"Come to Life" Event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This year the event goals were to:
¦ Attract new customers to the Senior Center and have them return to try other activities;
¦ Encourage participants to engage in new recreational activities, games, sports and hobbies that
strengthen the mind, body and spirit;
¦ Have fun playing, exploring and connecting;
¦ Gain insight into needs for new programs and activities for older adults.
The day began with a fun 30-minute act featuring a man and his best friend, "Dana and Lacey". The
keynote speaker was Doug McConnell, host of Bay Area Backroads and co-founder of OpenRoad TV,
The Travelers's Video Guide to the American West. Doug talked about fun and interesting stories from
his travels and explained how travel and exploration contributes to a healthy and happy mind. Following
the keynote address a free lunch was served.
The afternoon consisted of fun-filled activities to promote laughter and playfulness. The senior theatrical
experts Stagebridge, a seven-person team, performed a 30-minute interactive improvisational act called
"Antic Witty's", a spoof from TV's Antique Road Show. There was also an interactive sing-a-long
opportunity with Paulette Rene.
The afternoon also featured carnival-like games, hands-on craft projects and interactive games like the
Wii, ping pong and a putting competition. In order to encourage participation in all of the activities,
participants received a Bingo card to track participation in the activities. Those who completed a Bingo
on their card were entered into a drawing for door prizes.
