DESCRIPTION: The 2008 Day on the Glen Festival will be held Saturday and
Sunday, September 19 and 20, 2008. This year's theme, "A World of Fun", will transform Emerald Glen
Park into a mini "Epcot Center", featuring geographic regions where children of all ages can explore, play
and learn about different cultures. This cultural experience will be enhanced by a wide variety of
international entertainment and delicious intemational foods.
Staff has begun contacting local community groups to seek their input and involvement to ensure a
culturally diverse event. These groups are being asked to assist with determining culturally-authentic
children's games, entertainment and educational materials.
T'he event layout will remain similar to years past with the City Hall Booth and event sponsors being
located at the main entrance to the park, near the snack bar building. This area will also feature other
community services such as Dublin Unified School District, DSRSD, the Dublin Library, AVI and East
Bay Regional Parks. The remainder of the park will be separated into geographic regions, one for each
of the seven continents and feature specific games, booths, entertainment and food from that region.
Children will be able to pick-up an event passport, and get it stamped when visiting each continent and
then turn-it in at the City Hall booth to receive a small intemational flag or globe key chain.
The Main Stage will be placed at the end of the promenade in front of the fountain. This will feature
quality family entertainment throughout the day and a special evening concert on Saturday from 7:00 to
9:00 p.m. Staff will soon be identifying possible musical groups for this special musical performance.
The Pine Grove area will host animal eachibits from Wild Things and Leopard's Etc. highlighting animals
native to Africa, South and North America. There will also be over 100 booths featuring non-profit
organizations, commercial vendors, and craft items for sale.
