DESCRIPTION: The 26"' Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration is scheduled for the
weekend of March 14 and 15, 2009. Staff is seeking input from the Commission on the preferred option
for the 2009 Festival Poster.
In past years, the poster has featured a variety of designs, ranging from the whimsical to actual event
photos placed within a large shamrock. Last year's poster design included a darkened silhouette of a
leprechaun along with a rainbow and pot of gold.
For the 2009 poster, three poster options have been developed for consideration by the Parks &
Community Services Commission. The poster options are attached and are conceptual in nature. Once
the preferred option is chosen, Staff will finalize the sponsors and add specific event information
regarding the Pancake Breakfast, Parade and Fun Run.
• Poster Option A(Attachment 1) highlights Ireland's traditional flag with a shamrock foremost
within the artwork. Additional event information and sponsor logos would be added within the
orange and green stripes and middle white area at the bottom.
• Poster Option B(Attachment 2) has a character leprechaun holding shamrocks with colorful block
lettering. Additional event information and sponsor logos would be added below and to the left of
the leprechaun.

• Poster Option C(Attachment 3) is a cheerful, child's view of the festivities, complete with a funny
green hat, freckles and a big smile. Additional event information and sponsor logos would be
added on the bottom one third of the poster.
The City Council will consider the poster options on December 16th. Staff will present the Commission
recommendation to the Council at that time.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Parks and Community Services
Commission receive the report and recommend the preferred artwark to the City Council or provide
additional comments regarding the artwork for City Council consideration.
