HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.3 ArchitectSelectionCommitteeEGRec&AquaComplex ~ OF Dp~ ti 19 82 AGENDA STATEMENT PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING DATE: August 18, 2008 SUBJECT: Architect Selection Committee for Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatic Complex Report by Paul McCreary, Assistant Director of Parks & Community Services ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and appoint a representative and alternate to the Architect Selection Committee FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The 2008-2013 Capital Improvement Program includes the Emerald Glen Recreation and Aquatic Complex project. Completion of this project will accomplish the CounciPs strategic goal to develop a state-of-the-art Recreation and Aquatic Complex. The Fiscal Year 2008-2009 Capital Improvement Program Budget includes funding to begin design of the Complex. As was done for the Shannon Community Center, the Council directed Staff to form a similar Architect Selection Committee comprised of the following City representatives: ¦ City Council Representative ¦ Assistant Director of Parks and Community ¦ Parks and Community Services Commission Services Representative ¦ Parks & Facilities Development Manager ¦ City Manager ¦ Recreation Supervisor for Sports and ¦ Parks and Community Services Director Aquatics Phase I of the facility is 35,895 square feet (s.f.) and includes a gymnasium, fitness center, game room/teen lounge, group exercise/dance studio, special events room, juice bar, locker rooms, administrative offices and the spaces needed to support the swimming pools. The facility master plan includes two swimming pools including a leisure/instructional pool (6,675 s.£), and a 25-meter by 25- yard (6,150 s.f.) deep water competition pool. COPIES TO: ITEM NO.: 8.3 G:TARKS C0MMISSI0N\AGNDSTMT\2008\8-18 Rec and Aquatic Architect Selection.doc Phase II of the Complex includes a 12,140 s.f. natatorium building to enclose the leisure/instructional pool constructed in Phase I to make it a year-round aquatic facility. Funding for this will need to be identified from a source other than Public Facility Impact Fees. It is anticipated interviews will be held September 8 and 9, 2008, from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The final selection will be before the City Council on October 7, 2008. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Parks and Community Services Commission receive the report and appoint a representative and alternate to the Architect Selection Committee. 2 of 2 ~ i
