recover all of their costs.
H&CAC Meeting — September 9, 2010
Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold asked about other communities that have implemented a pricing policy. Mr.
McCreary indicated that there are numerous communities that he is aware of that have adopted pricing
policies.
Cms. Vonheeder-Leopold and Mack expressed their support for the pricing policy.
Chair Minniear stated that he is concerned that department operations are being falsely compared to a
private sector business. He stated that the public pays taxes to provide government services. He stated
that he is concerned about the potential of providing extra payment for items for which the public is
already paying through taxes. He urged Staff to not forget about the value of providing the services of a
public park, community activities, etc.
Cm. Tutino stated that she supports the pricing policy for its fiscal accountability and agrees with the
strategy of using priority levels.
Cm. Vonheeder-Leopold stated that she hopes that the pricing policy does not lead to reducing the
number of programs that are no longer considered a priority. Mr. McCreary stated that the increased fees
for the discretionary services will help to sustain the core services.
Chair Minniear asked about the administrative costs associated with the implementation and processes of
the pricing policy. Mr. McCreary stated that he does not foresee the implementation and processes
incurring a large cost due to the ease of obtaining the information from the City's new financial system.
