In the three months since the park has been available, there have been many types of uses including the Park's Grand Opening and Dedication ceremony. The following is an overview of the programs and rentals that have occurred since July, as well as some of the plans Staff is considering for future programs at Fallon Sports Park. CITY PROGRAMS AND CONTRACT CLASSES The City has moved operations of the Adult Softball program from the Dublin Sports Grounds to Fallon Sports Park. The summer season included the men's league which was the first one held since 2007. Overall, the number of softball teams competing during the summer of 2010 doubled from the previous year and set an all rime high. Teams enjoy playing at Fallon and the feedback has been very positive. Staff is considering the expansion of softball leagues for spring 2011 to meet the growing demand as word of mouth spreads about Dublin's new premier softball complex. Adult Soccer leagues were offered for the first time by the City and an eight-team men's league is currently happening on Sunday mornings. Staff is also considering the expansion of soccer leagues for spring 2011. City contracted sports camps were also held at Fallon during the summer which included camps offered by Dublin Falcons Football and Skyhawks Sports Academy. This made use of the soccer fields, tennis courts and baseball fields. City programming planned for winter 2010-2011 includes moving Kidz Love Soccer from Ted Fairfield Park to Fallon Sports Park, and Wee Hoop Basketball from Emerald Glen Park to Fallon Sports Park. Staff also plans to move the City's Tee-ball program from Ted Fairfield Park to the two baseball fields at Fallon Sports Park in fall 2011 to be able to accommodate more players in this growing league. The Dublin community readily embraced the outdoor basketball and tennis courts at Fallon and there is a steady flow of users especially during evenings and weekends. FIELD RENTALS Dublin United Soccer League has been the primary renter of the soccer fields using 607 hours over 88 days in the past three months. This averages 5.4 hours per weeknight rental and 8.6 hours per weekend rental. To date, there have been two tournaments held for a total of five days with three additional tournaments scheduled for fall 2010 and winter 2011. In addition, an adult soccer group has rented the fields for a total of 21 hours. Dublin Little League has been the primary renter of the baseball fields using 122 hours over 30 days in the past three months. A separate youth baseball group has also rented the fields for a total of four hours. Lamorinda Baseball has been the primary renter of the softball field using 12 hours over four days in the past three months. The group needed a practice baseball field with lights, which are only available on the softball fields. SUMMARY During the first three months of availability Fallon Sports Park has been well-regarded by the community and is being used regularly by various youth and adult sports groups. Dublin United Soccer League is planning on expanding its winter and spring programming based on the added all-weather fields and Dublin Little League will be enjoying its first full regular season at Fallon Sports Park in spring 2011. Staff anticipates that, as word gets out and with the prospects of City and youth sports organization programs expanding, that the field usage at Fallon Sports Park will continue to increase in 2011. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Parks and Community Services Commission receive the report. 2 of 2 1
