DESCRIPTION:
Dublin Pride Week is an annual event that seeks to promote a positive image for the City of
Dublin. The primary objective for Dublin Pride Week is to seek ways to engage individuals
and/or groups in action-based activities to help improve the community. At the forefront of this
effort is the Dublin Pride Week Committee. The Committee is made up of Councilmembers,
City Staff and various community members and community organizations, which come together
to plan and prepare the event. Councilmember participation is ` a key component of this
committee and the ultimate success of Dublin Pride Week activities. Dublin Pride Week
historically occurs in late April or early May. The Pride Week Committee will decide the exact
dates of Pride Week festivities at its first meeting.
Traditionally, Dublin Pride Week has had two City Councilmembers appointed to its committee.
In 2010, Councilmembers Kasie Hildenbrand and Don Biddle served as the City Council's
representatives; however, their terms of service expired in December 2010. As such, Mayor
Sbranti has recommended the new appointment of two Councilmembers to this committee for
2011. The City Councilmembers recommended for 2011 are Mayor Sbranti and Councilmember
Biddle.
At the current time, Pride Week Committee Meetings are tentatively scheduled to occur once a
month on a Thursday, and each meeting starts at 2:00 in the afternoon. Generally, this meeting
schedule continues until the completion of Dublin Pride Week. As Pride Week approaches,
more frequent meetings can become necessary. If the need arises, the Pride Week Committee
may meet on a bi-weekly basis beginning in March and continues in such a manner until Pride
Week activities begin. Other meetings schedules can be set to meet the needs of committee
members. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
