SUBJEC : Acceptance of Donation C-rant from the Altamont Cruisers Car Club

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Dublin Police Services' Crime Prevention Unit was given a generous grant from the Altamont
Cruisers Car Club. The grant amount of $3,000 will be used for presenting an afternoon forum
to educate parents of Dublin middle and high school students on teenage prescription drug
diversion. The Dublin City Council will present the Altamont Cruisers Car Club with a Certificate
of Appreciation for their donation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The $3,000 donation will assist Dublin Police Services in the updating of its curriculum with
producing a video of the forum, for the youth drug and alcohol awareness programs. The
Dublin Community Policing Unit will use the funds for $2,475.00 in operating supplies and
$525.00 in contract services. This was not part of the original adopted budget; approval of a
Budget Change that recognizes the new revenue and expenditure will be necessary.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the $3,000 donation, approve the Budget
Change and formally recognize the donor.

DESCRIPTION:
On Tuesday, December 14, 2010, Sergeant Nick Soares attended a Grant Presentation
Meeting on behalf of Dublin Police Services Crime Prevention Unit. At the meeting the
Altamont Cruisers Car Club presented him with a check for $3,000.
The Altamont Cruisers Car Club awarded the Dublin Police Services Crime Prevention Unit this
grant to assist with drug prevention programs. The funds will be used to stage and record a
forum on February 26, 2011, to educate parents on teenage prescription drug diversion. The
forum will include a narcotic officer, an emergency room physician, a teen subst~nce abuse
professional, and a'mother who lost her bright and promising son to recreational use of
prescription pain killers and alcohol. This video will be used to supplement the drug awareness
program provided by Dublin Police Services. The funds were made available as a result of a
profit The Altamont Cruisers Car Club made from their annual car show.
NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH:
Notification for the forum will be mailed to the parents of Dublin middle school and high school
students, as well as neighborhood watch block captains.
