DESCRIPTION: In February of 1988, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 27-88 which established passenger loading, no parking, and bus zones on Amarillo Road at Nielsen School. (The bus zone had actually been in effect since 1985, but other changes necessitated repeal of the original bus zone ordinance and adoption of Resolution 27-88.) These improvements were the City's part in a plan to improve traffic congestion on Amarillo Road caused by parents picking up and dropping off children at the school. The school district provided additional improvements in their parking lot to improve circulation. At the time the bus zone was established, the school district provided bus service and had requested that the special zone be set aside for the buses to unload passengers. The district has now discontinued their bus service and would like to be able to use the approximately 100 feet of curb as available parking. Staff has no problem with the request and therefore recommends that the City Council conduct a public hearing and adopt the resolution. JBLI, C, WORKS Dear Mr. Thompson: We at Nielsen School thank you for all your help as we work to improve our traffic flow. Thanks to you a number of improvements have been made. The Dublin School District has now sold all of its buses, and there will no lonqer be a need for a bus zone. Since parkin~ space is at a premium (we have fewer parkinq spaces than emplovees), the red zone labeled could revert to a plain curb, and vehicles could park there a~ain. I would request that the curb revert to a plain curb. and NOT an extension of the passenqer !oadinq zone, so that the early arrivinq staff can use that area. We do like the passenqer loadinq zone as it is. I would be happy to answer anv auestions you might have. Please feel free to call or come by in person. Sincerelv. Diane L.
