DESCRIPTION: Vice Mayor Jeffery has indicated that the planning for the Welcome Home Celebration is proceeding. The event is currently planned for May 18, 1991. The Planning Committee has planned a parade which will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by a picnic, ceremonies, and entertainment. All these events are planned to be located in the Hacienda Business Park in the City of Pleasanton. The Committee has divided up the work ,and requested that Dublin assist in sending letters to the Armed Services Personnel and families in the Tri- Valley area. In addition, the Committee has recommended that each City fly a similar banner welcoming home the troops. It is recommended that the City purchase a banner 3 feet by 20 feet with the wording "DUBLIN WELCOMES HONIE TOWN HEROES- PARADE, PICNIC, CELEBR.ATION - May 18, 1991, 11:00 a.m. Hacienda Business Park." This banner would have a flag on one end of the banner and a yellow ribbon on the other end. The cost of the banner would not exceed $350, but the installation of the banner would vary depending on the location selected by the City Council. The banner poles will not be available for this event in that they have previously been reserved by the Rowell Ranch Rodeo. Staff has identified three possible locations for the banner. These locations are 1) the Dublin Sports Grounds fence along Dublin Boulevard - cost to install $50; 2) the Civic Center Seat Wall facing Dublin Boulevard - cost to install $100; 3) the east side of San Ramon Road south of Belina. This would require that poles be installed in concrete in the landscape area - cost to install $200-$250. Vice Mayor Jeffery will be able to answer any questions that the Council may have regarding other aspects of this event. a:s48cele.doc.agenda#4 --------------------------------------------~---------- ^------------- COPIES TO:`.
