Community Services
ATTACHMENTS: Staff Report from January 26, 2011 Youth Advisory Committee
Meeting
RECOMMENDATION: Receive report, participate in the workshop with the Youth Advisory
Committee Members and provide input on future teen programs and
promotional techniques
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: The City offers a variety of events, classes and programs that are
geared toward teens. Although most of the teen classes and programs offered by the City are well
attended, the teen events continue to lack sufficient attendance. Attachment 1 is a report that was
presented to the Youth Advisory Committee on January 26, 2011, which recommends reducing the
number of teen events held each year. The report also recommends discontinuing the "Dublin Teen
Circuit Program".
The Youth Advisory Committee Members will be attending this Commission meeting to participate in a
workshop on teen activities and communications. The purpose of the workshop is to identify the various
alternatives available to teens in Dublin for recreational classes and activities. The group will engage in a
conversation about why teens do not attend events sponsored by the City as well as ways in which the
Staff can better communicate with teens.
The input from the workshop will be used to develop the proposed Teen Program budget for Fiscal Year
2011-2012.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Parks and Community Services
Commission receive the report, participate in the workshop with the Youth Advisory Committee
Members and provide input on future teen programs and promotional techniques.
