Two Neighborhood Parks are included in the Development. The 2010-2015 City of Dublin Capital Improvement Program includes funding for design and construction of one of the Neighborhood Parks. At the January 18, 2011 meeting of the Dublin City Council, the City Council approved an Agreement with MPA Design for the 4.6 acre Neighborhood Park in the Positano Development. DESCRIPTION: In sequence with the new Positano Development, the 4.6 acre park is scheduled for construction during the summer of 2012. On March 24, 2011 the first community workshop for the park was conducted in one of the model homes adjacent to the future park site and despite inclement weather thirteen community members were in attendance. MPA Design, the City's Landscape Architect for the project presented three design alternatives as shown in Attachments 1-3. Following the meeting, Staff posted the three alternatives along with a simple questionnaire on the City's website. After a little over a week on the website, six survey questionnaires were completed. COPIES TO: MPA Design GAPCSCOMM\AGNDSTMn5-15 AREA F WORKSHOP #1\.doc ITEM NO.: 8.1 Preferred Conceptual Park Design The Landscape Architect has worked to incorporate the comments from the public meeting, the on-line survey responses and additional information gathered on adjacent proposed grades and circulation patterns, into a preferred conceptual park design. As shown in Attachments 4a-b, the proposed conceptual design incorporates the more curvilinear shape along with nature themed play elements as originally presented in Option C. Between the public meeting and on-line survey Option C was the overall preferred design along with the nature themed play area. As part of the process, participants were asked their opinion on a number of the park elements. The results are shown below: Community Garden - The general consensus is that it is not needed in this location. Basketball Court - The general consensus is yes for one court and one meeting participant thought ideally two courts. Adult Fitness Area - The general consensus at the meeting was that it was not needed, however the on-line survey had shown that four of the six respondents (or 80%) rated it as "Important". Picnic Area Preferences - The general consensus from the meeting and on-line survey was that picnic tables clustered for groups and some separated for individual use was preferred. At the meeting, it was also suggested that the picnic area be close to the play area. Comments on Additional Elements - Those at the meeting also expressed a desire for shade structures and more trees. There was discussion about incorporating a dog park, but when it was pointed out that a dog park would require a minimum of 2 acres which is almost one-half of the park, the majority of those in attendance were not in favor of the dog park. There was also a request for a swimming pool or water feature and Staff had explained that those elements were not within the construction or maintenance budget to support. RECOMMENDATION: The 4.6 acre neighborhood park in is the first of two neighborhood parks to be built in the Positano Development. In order to insure that the park is designed to meet the needs of the community, input from the public and Parks and Community Services Commission are needed. Therefore, it is the recommendation of Staff that the Commission receive the presentation from Staff and the Landscape Architect, receive public comment, and recommend approval of the preferred conceptual park design to the City Council or provide alternate recommendation. 2 of 2
