New Park Names Survey Results RECOMMENDATION: Determine three names for each park for recommendation to the City Council FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The Positano Development is located east of Fallon Road at Positano Parkway. Two Neighborhood Parks are included in the Development. The 2010-2015 City of Dublin Capital Improvement Program includes funding for design and construction of one of the Neighborhood Parks. At the January 18, 2011 meeting of the Dublin City Council, the City Council approved an Agreement with MPA Design for the 4.6 acre Neighborhood Park in the Positano Development. Also at the meeting, Staff sought City Council direction on whether the park should officially be named Positano Park, as it is currently referred to in the Capital Improvement Program or whether the City Council would prefer that Staff return at a later date with options related to the naming of the park. The City Council directed Staff to engage the public in the naming process for both of the parks in the Positano Development. An on-line survey was used to solicit input from the public regarding potential park names. Potential respondents were provided with the following information to assist in the naming process. The first park, currently in the design stages, is a 4.6+/- acre park bordered by Valentano Drive, Latari Street, and Montese Drive. It backs up to open space and gently rolling hills. The second park is a 5.0+/- acre park bordered by Positano Parkway, Via Veneto Drive, and E. Cantara Drive. It is adjacent to a future elementary school, yet to be named. The following general guidelines may be helpful in determining names for the parks. • Name reflects the geographic location of the facility (neighborhood/development, major street or regional area of the City) COPIES TO: ITEM NO.: 7.1 GAPARKS COMMISSIMAGNDSTMM011\5-16 Item 7.1 Positano Development Park Names.doc • Name reflects a prominent form of topography, or a prominent plant, bush or tree • Name reflects the history of the area (family name of the builder or person donating the land) • Name recognizes a significant contributor to the advancement of the City (former Mayor, Councilmember, Board/Commission Member, etc.) Respondents could suggest two names per park and were able to provide comments as well.
